Re: Auto Bids By Head Coach NCAA History

Brad Stevens may have yeah.  And yet he followed up 2 amazing NCAA Finals runs with an 11-7 Horizon team.  Few is 93-4 in league play since 2017 6 seasons, 4 losses combined.

The next year Stevens went to the A10 and did get back to the Dance and then bolted, so we'll never know but I'd predict more up and down than Few's juggernaut express.  Just to put into perspective, Stevens took 5 teams to the Dance, Few has taken 22 in a row (as head Coach, 23 straight at Gonzaga)

I recall thinking in 2004 St Joe's were also going to be THAT good forever. Martelli was 49, they had been to the Dance 3 x in 4 years, he had that nearly  undefeated #1 seed with two NBA 1st round picks and an Elite 8.  It was his 4th 5th and 6th NCAA win including an earlier Sweet 16 run.

He won 1 more NCAA game in the next 15 years, 3 trips.  Really really hard to sustain.

McKillop has been the Davidson Coach since the 80s, he had a future NBA MVP and an Elite 8 trip of his own. Even with Curry returning as a Junior Davidson could not get back to the NCAA Tourney the next season

Since that one run, Davidson has no more NCAA wins, really really hard to sustain. McKillop was in a smaller league than the WCC for 25 years, they got 6 auto bids in 25 years with him.  1 more in the A10.

It took Few 15 full seasons winning every single year to really have a crack at top recruits like Suggs or Holmgren, previously he was doing it with mostly local kids, then International kids, started to get some transfers.  Finally has been able to add some top of draft talent but that took forever to get to that level.

Lot of credit goes to Tommy Lloyd who stayed with Few for 21 years, and now has Arizona a 1 seed in his first year.   Obviously GW, in the heart of the Nation's Capital should try to emulate our own version of an International pipeline.  Every successful GW Coach (modern era) has had them
