We ranked 278 of 364 Division I teams in home attendance last season. We were 13th in the A-10. Only Fordham ranked below us. Does anyone see much improvement this season?

Was that average attendance or total? Didn't we have about a month of games with no fans?

Both Fordham and GW had multiple home games cancelled

COVID-era attendance figures are not a very good metric. While GW´s historical attendance woes have been frequent fodder for conversation here, the last "normal" home game was Wednesday March 4, 2020, a 63-52 loss to Fordham that drew 2500 people. Even if the Smith Center sells out for every game, GW will be outdrawn by most programs because they play in larger arenas. So, would you rather play in a half-full bandbox or have a bigger crowd but play in a 1/4 full mega-arena? Ask the folks at That School Down the Street about that one...

I haven't done the research but am inclined to disagree with the statement that most programs play in larger arenas. Just look at the many one-bid leagues and you'll find that the vast majority likely play their home games at smaller venues.

I saw that list too and it's embarrassing. Free tickets for students still, right?
Maybe there's an effect when 2,500 watch you lose by double digits to the worst program in A-10 history.

To be fair, 1,007 faithful watched us beat Fordham by 9 last February.

Student body is inbalanced. For some reason GW attracts a lot more women than men. That could have an impact on attendance, but having lousy teams is the main problem.
