I kind of get it.
Hawaii, like you said, gets the worst seeded team, giving them a chance of a win in their own tournament. Wash St., the best seeded team, likely negotiates a deal that gives them the easiest path to two wins and the finals, giving them the next worst seed and Hawaii.
That puts everyone else in one half of the bracket.

The bracket for the 2022 Diamond Head Classic is set.
Iona/SMU
Seattle/Utah State
Washington State/GW
Hawaii/PepperdineVery odd pairings. Using last year's KenPom ratings as a guide:
Iona (89) vs SMU (62)
Seattle (139) vs Utah State (60)
Hawaii (169) vs Pepperdine (279)
GW (226) vs Wash. State (44)
I'd say they lined up Iona/SMU as a strong tv matchup except all games are televised by ESPN2 or ESPNU.
4 of the top 5 schools on one side of the draw? I get Hawaii receiving the easiest opening game but even still, this is very unbalanced.

It that is the order of play it puts GW in the 4th game. If it iis 9pm Hawaii time, then with the 6 hour time difference...well you do the math as to the start time on the east coast. We will then see who the true fans are,

Good news LSF. It's 9:00 pm EST.
The following night, it's either 10:00 pm EST or midnight.
Then on Christmas Day, we'll be on at a watchable hour (could impact those Chinese food/movie plans).

Let's hope the Diamond Head Classic is smart enough not to put the teams in close proximity to each other after a hard fought battle unlike the time we played Tennessee in Hawaii under TP and nearly all hell broke loose at the post game meal.

Sadly, GWRising's Hatchet article primarily served to remind me that The Washington Post used to write about this program. Though I do detect a pattern. The game articles were small with a beat writer eventually replaced by a two paragraph AP account. But if you really wanted to read about GW basketball in the Post? Huge articles to choose from ranging from Richie Parker to a postgame brawl in Hawaii to Omargate to Lonergan/Nero. Not nearly as much attention paid to a 27-3 season, an NIT Championship, or players from fraudulent high schools graduating from GW on time.

I would make one minor amendment to your post. I would say it was a player not players that graduated from GW as I'm not sure Maureece Rice ever graduated. Omar Williams did for sure.

Not sure if the humor was intentional, but offering a team guaranteed money AND a tour of the monuments is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time. Let’s see what else we can offer teams as incentive to play at the Smitty. How about an autographed Yinka Dare shirt, or house them in Thurston, all expenses paid?

Would arranging a meeting with the Congressional rep for the district the visiting school is located in be an incentive or scare teams away?
