We are reviving the WRGW sports blog and I figured this would be the best place to share it since this is the biggest group of GW sports fans on the internet. We recognize the Hatchet is basically the only source of coverage for GW sports other than the official website so we’re hoping to become a go-to source for GW sports coverage while giving students a place to grow their passions and skills in sports journalism.
The focus will be on the basketball teams but we’re going to try to cover all GW sports along with non-GW sports coverage too. There’s going to be some stuff on fantasy sports as well as a betting perspective on GW basketball games and other stuff. The coverage will get underway in earnest with the soccer season but we’ll have a lot of coverage leading up to the basketball season.
If you’re a GW student and want to write for the blog, fill out this form: . If you have ideas for the blog or stories you want to see, feel free to send me a private message or respond on this thread. The more writers and input from readers we have, the better!
This is the link to the old blog (on which there’s a story about CC’s press conference in April and a video about Jabari West Jr): . We are in the process of designing a new site that will hopefully be up and running within the next week or two but in the meantime we'll be posting a few things on the old site.

Great to hear gwstudent2024. Another outlet for coverage can only be a good thing.

More coverage of GW sports is great. Hope the writers on the blog will ask tough questions, like good reporters, and get answers from GW sports leadership.

Congrats and wishing you all the success. The good news is you all basically have a blank slate when it comes to covering the team. A couple of things I feel like are missing from a media standpoint that hopefully WRGW can fill in:
1. Coverage of the post-game press conferences. During the Lonergan years the team used to stream all of them on their Facebook page and then it kind of went away. Maybe you can post them via YouTube to the blog?
2. No offense to the Hatchet but it seems like the extent of their coverage nowadays is just to either report on a press release from the team or post a recap of a game with 1-2 quotes. It would be great to see more content that tries to fill in the gaps to get to know the players better or offers more context on how the team is playing. Especially with a first year coach it would be cool to have check-ins maybe at the beginning of the season, mid-way, and then end of the season to see if the season went how CC expected?
3. It seems like a few of the A-10 fanbases are doing Twitter spaces. May be something to look into to generate engagement?
4. Can you try to get in touch with some of the recent alumni to sit down for a podcast? Maybe sort of a flashback oral history of the 05-06 team, 13-14 NCAA team, 15-16 NIT team, etc.? Or what life is like post-GW?
5. Similar to #2, please hold the team/school's feet to the fire. Not saying you should be negative for negative sake, but I think apathy from student media has allowed the school to not feel any pressure to upgrade the basketball teams specifically. I understand there may be some constraints being a student org but I don't think JC was ever actually asked directly why we never saw "mayhem" or why we always seemed completely unprepared to start the OOC schedule? Or if there's ever a way to sit down with Tanya, asking about how the school sees our athletics program in light of our peer schools seemingly investing more and more in their basketball programs.
