That was a great win for Rhode Island. They led from start to finish, and what I liked best about the win is, Providence cut the deficit down to 2 with about 5 minutes left, and then Rhode Island/Fats Russell just put them away.
The Dude, Obi Toppin's little brother Jacob is more of a perimeter player, even though he's almost as tall as Obi, and he should be very good in the future after Langevine graduates.
GW Alum Abroad, the fact that Jameer Nelson Jr. is a big-time player right out of the gate for GW makes things worse for St.Joe's, as they are currently on a 6-game losing streak, and have to play #23 Villanova today on ESPN2.
UMass at Harvard 1 ESPN+
Manhattan at Fordham 2 ESPN+
La Salle at Drexel 2
Hofstra at St.Bonaventure 2
#23 Villanova at St.Joseph's 3 ESPN2
Davidson at Northeastern 4 - How many points will Roland score on Davidson??
American U at George Mason 7 MASN2
Old Dominion at VCU 8 MASN
Illinois at #3 Maryland 5 ESPN2
Georgetown at SMU 9:30 ESPNU - the ball moved around a lot more without Akinjo, we'll see if this continues tonight

Watched the Michigan - Iowa game last night. Seeing Phil Martelli made me wonder if Martelli is making more money as an assistant coach than he was at St. Josephs. Anyone know? It was a good game, but a little more physical than I like.

Luka Garza with 44 in that game.

BC, I can't imagine it's close as Phil is making $450,000 this season to be Juwan's lead assistant. At St. Joe's, he had great longevity, several NCAA appearances, and a very popular coaches television show in Philadelphia. My guess is that he was conservatively earning at least twice that and probably closer to three to four times that amount.

What is GW paying JC? My vague recollection is that the A10 doesn't pay well.

Thomas, agreed!
Wow, 44 bones for Garza! impressive!

You guys need to check out the Georgetown-SMU game on ESPNU right now(if you can) only to see how the announcers keep referencing the Temporary Restraining Order scandal involving the Georgetown players. Georgetown is up by 20 at the moment(31-11 with 7:15 left in the 1st half, but the mentions of the scandal can't be good for the program, especially when one of the players involved(Myron Gardner) just had an And-1 play.

Butler, which for the first time in years has thankfully stopped raiding GW Guards, is 9-0 and #13 KenPom.
The ever impressive Big East has 5 of the top 25 KenPom teams:
Butler, Seton Hall, Villanova (winner of 2 NCAA titles in the last 4 years) Marquette and Xavier.
G'town is a very respectable #45. Creighton and DePaul make that 8 of the top 55.
The Big East keeps on ticking.

F the big east.
...Sorry. Reflex.

St Louis wins 86 - 62.
Richmond wins 75 - 57.
Dayton wins 78 - 68.
A10 goes 9-3 for the weekend. Not bad. --Fordham lost their game by a point.

Strong weekend and strong start to the season for the A10.

To give an idea of how bad the A10 was last year and how solid it is so far this year...
Last year St Bonnie was 121st in kenpom, which was 4th best in the league.
This year, they are 123rd, and it’s only 9th best in the league.

Also notable that we're no longer in last place (KenPom) in the A-10 with St Joe's slipping below us after two losses last week. Next one up on the rankings is UMass, who has games versus Yale and Maine before we play again vs Harvard.

Not a game note or anything, but there is a nice article on UD's Arena Transformation in the Sports Business Journal. Not sure if there is an online publication of it. I'll keep looking.

BM(or anyone else), how is Fordham not in last place in the KenPom rankings. I'm pretty sure Fordham hasn't played anyone of significance up to this point, and I thought you get rewarded in metric rankings when you play a good team regardless of whether you win or lose.
St.Joe's at Temple 7 on ESPNU - St.Joe's is a strange team, they play well against big-name teams so they'll probably play well or win against Temple.
Coppin State at Davidson 7 ESPN+
#4 Maryland at Penn State 7 ESPN2 - I've seen enough of Maryland to realize this is team is no different than Turgeon's other teams meaning despite the talent level, they aren't capable of putting together a strong effort for 40 minutes. They were lucky to win their last game against Illinois
UMBC at Towson 7

Thomas, I am totally sold by this MD team! Very impressed with them this is not quite like other teams!
Very slow slate this week? Exams??

KenPom has Fordham ranked as the 80th best D in the country, which averages out with their pathetic O (#319).
Good call on UMD, although PSU was favored by a point.

what a great win for Penn St.
Huge upset with Texas Tech down #1 Louisville! Chris Beard fresh off an NCAA Final game takes down #1 again.

Has anyone seen Davidson's Korean Freshman Lee? he hasn't played a ton yet but I've been super impressed in small doses.
Tonight he came off the bench to pour in 17 points and 10 boards. I could see him as a upper tier A10 talent, his minutes have really caught my eye. Outside of Davidson's win tonight was one to avert the eyes to A10 action!
