Speaking of KenPom, the last time GW (186) was this high (low?) was March 3, 2018. What a long, strange trip it's been.

This is, without question, the saddest sentence/statistic I've read so far in 2023.

The GW Trio do it again.
Road win vs 12-3 Northwestern, another late 3 for the win.
Northwestern had already beat Michigan St, Indiana, and Illinois, really good road win for Rutgers.

Last play of the Mason/SLU game looks a little familiar, only this time the refs didn't fall for it

This really goes to show how arbitrary officiating can be. It's the same play with the same result only two totally different outcomes are called by the refs.
From a GW perspective, I say better to get SLU off of a "questionable" win as opposed to a home loss.

I think there’s an argument that this should have been called a charge. The defender did seem to be set for a split second, though close.
There’s zero argument about our play vs VCU since the defender had one foot out of bounds. It never should have been called, and the A10 said so afterwards, because you can’t draw a charge when you are out of bounds.

From the same game

There's some rumblings about Cal being forced out of Kentucky
Not sure I believe that, but they did have a terrible 2021 (9-16) lost round 1 last year in a 15 vs 2 upset and 1-3 in SEC play with a bubbleish resume at the moment
Either way, what looked like a Dynastic juggernaut in his first years, with a title, a runner up and that 38-0 start to 2014/15, has gone down a lot. Have not been back to a Final 4 since the 2015 upset loss
A couple of down years amid this resume would hardly put most Coaches on a hot seat, but this is Kentucky so who knows. Rumors of him going to Texas are in the air

Dayton vs VCU ESPN2 9pm
Dayton looking more and more like an at Large bid caliber team

Clemson beat Duke 72-64
South Carolina beat both Clemson and Kentucky (at Rupp)
it really is an any given Saturday sport, part of what makes it great.
Alabama beat 12-4 LSU 106-66. Could be their year to cut down the net

I know it is wrong to feel like this but the heart feels what the heart feels. Seeing Brayon Freeman have another awful shooting dayt (4-16) on a team that is not as good as the team he left, and seeing Joe Bamisile ride the bench kinda makes me feel good. The two of them could have made GW legitimately one of the top teams in the conference. Too bad for them, too bad for us.

Gonzaga has won 75 games in a row at home, one of the longest streaks of all time. Every game going back 5 years to 2018.
#1 is Kentucky, #3 UCLA under Wooden, #2 was the real surprise, 99 games in a row for..... St. Bonaventure, spanning an incredible 13 years 1948-1961

The GW Trio in Rutgers do it again
Rutgers beats KenPom #16 Ohio St in OT

Georgetown Big East losing streak at 28.
Zero snark question: How poor does a university’s athletic leadership have to be to fall this far?
FWIW I think if they commit to the right AD they’ll be good maybe very good IF they can get a 9-10K arena on campus.
Plus what are the chances the could find the right AD given how wedded they are to the Thompson way? Isn’t Ronnie Thompson still involved?

St. John's won the other day in Hartford for the first time in 35 years. UCONN has now lost 4 of their last 5. They must have Feb. 4 circled on their calendars (second meeting against Georgetown). The mighty Huskies do not appear to be nearly as powerful as one here would have you believe.

Have mentioned here before that I had predicted to a friend and Rutgers grad that upon hiring their current coaching staff, Rutgers would be at least a .500 team in the Big 10 within five seasons. They not only finished ahead of schedule but their recruiting is now through the roof. They bring in two CT players next season including Gavin Griffiths who is ranked 20th on the Rivals150 and may be the best shooter entering the college game next season. As for the Class of 2024, their recruiting class is now ranked third nationally thanks to four star point guard Dellquan Warren and five star forward Ace Bailey who is ranked sixth overall in the 247 Sports composite ranking (making him Rutgers' highest ranked commit since the rankings began. Brandin Knight has become a sensational recruiter, joining the three coaches with GW ties.
