Also of note, JBIV and BA are going to finish somewhere between 4th-6th most minutes played by a GW player in a season after the VCU game.
JBIV also likely going to finish in the Top 5 for most assists in a season by a GW player and Top 3 most points in a single season

Hate to rain on everyone's parade, but of course there is doubt as to who will win POY. Doesn't really matter how many question marks or exclamation points you use when trying to make your case. Let's also say that not winning POY would not detract at all from the phenomenal season that James has had. We watch him everry game so we have, by nature, a very biased eye. Some quite a bit more than others.
First, it's important to define the award. Let's try and picture GW without Bishop, SLU without Collins, Dayton without Holmes, Richmond without Burton and VCU without Baldwin. The teams that would likely be in the worst shape are GW and Richmond. And the Spiders did not win nearly enough so Burton can't be a consideration. James likely is the most valuable to his team after factoring team success, but that does not mean he will win. Some things to consider:
1) Baldwin played on the best team, but likely did not do enough individually to win the award.
2) Collins is the consummate playmaker, but I'd be surprised if he won as well. This leaves Holmes and Bishop.
3) Holmes should be playing in the NBA next season. Much harder to say this about James.
4) Perhaps the most important consideration is this: You have to go back to 2008-09 to find the last time that a POY winner came from a school outside the top 4 (Ahmad Nivins of St. Joe's who finished tied for 5th that season). Since then, all winners have come from top 4 teams. Dayton is in 2nd place and can not fall outside the top 4.
5) It's not like Daron Holmes isn't a great candidate too. He is 4th in the conference in scoring (3rd in conference games), 4th in rebounding, 3rd in FG %, and 2nd in blocks (1st in conference games). He also plays 3.6 fewer minutes per game than James, and 4.6 fewer minutes in conference games.
6) In case you'rwe thinking why they are going to give the award to yet another Dayton guy, think again. Obi has been the only Flyer to ever win the award.
Perhaps they will each win which might be only fitting given each of their seasons. (In 2017-18, Peyton Aldridge shared the award with Brendan's brother Jaylen, so there is precedent.) However, I would lean towards Holmes for the reasons stated above.

It should be noted that if GW wins on Saturday, and I know that is a HUGE if, they could finish tied for fourth or even third in the conference. They can’t get the double bye because Fordham and St. Louis both have the tie breaker over us for tournament seeding, but they could still finish tied for fourth or even third. Fordham has to play Duquesne and St. Louis has to play Dayton, so its not outside the realm of possibility.

That really captures the historic nature of his season. Creating for others at historic GW rates while scoring at them as well
Magnificent season. There are other great A10 players but is anyone else truly having a season on par with James???

We all know what James can do when he is on--and what has done when he is on. Most impressive, though, is his growth and maturity as a player, along with the coaching he now receives. In our minds, particularly after last night, he is the Player of the Year.
But there are a number of factors that go into it and that doesn't overtake James' ability, when he is on, to will us to win. Nor what it means to have other threats like Brendan (should be Most Improved), Max (Shold be Rookie/Newcomer of the Year) and Hunter particularly recently, also make huge and visible contributions, while Ricky does the hard work down low and comes up with double-doubles. Amir is stellar defensively and Noel can make a difference in the paint, especially defensively, while Qwanzi can give good minutes. EJ clearly contributed pre-injury. The walkons provide support that allows for critical practices and may yet be called on for brief, but important respite during tourney games. CC (and staff) should be a Coach of the Year candidate--as least in our minds, for doing more with less.
Perhaps rather the best thing for us and James is enjoy and appreciate performances like last night, and to focus on winning games in the tournament, which we can control, rather than outside accolades, which we can't. Imagine that's what James is doing as he seems to have a superb sense of calm on the court.
We'll know soon on the awards. In the meantime, let's enjoy the ride surpassing our expectations in the regular season, and keep driving further as a team.

Oduro is certainly a candidate, and Mason is 10-7, so is GW, 10-7
With GW back in the top 5 of the league, surely Bishop is right at the top of the mix for POY discussions
Question #2:
Is there ANY doubt James is on the 1st team all A10?

I heard JBIV could play another year. Is that true? Would be great to have him back but wouldn't be surprised if he left.

Bishop and Dean are both seniors, but my understanding is that they have another year of eligibility due to the Covid year. Adams and Lindo do not. Saturday (Senior Day) will be a good indicator of if they plan to return or not.

How about Bishop for honorable mention All-American? #7 in scoring and #34 in assists. Don’t think any other guard has that kind of stat line.
A guy can dream, can’t he?

Would be ironic, since I don’t think a single DC sports reporter has ever mentioned his name in the three years he’s been at GW, much less interviewed him.

Put another way, he's 3rd in the nation in Points Produced, a measure of his assists and point scoring production.
That sure sounds like All-American consideration for a guy who keeps leading his team to late game wins night after night!!

Ah yes, thank God for Feinstein, the only one that pays attention to GW. Hopefully this will change as we improve under Caputo. But I still think its a shame Bishop and his teammates haven’t gotten more attention from the local media.

Bishop is my POY; he had 12 points in the last 3 minutes v Davidson. it should come down to JB and Holmes. Odouro is very good but not at their level.

Completely agree. 💯
Two man race between Bishop and Holmes, I concur

Misspoke earlier, James is not 3rd in the Nation in Points Produced.
He's #2.
Points produced, an analytics stat measuring the points created by a Point Guard in terms of Assist created and points
#1 in the A10 #1 in the A10 in 2021 too... and top 5 3 straight years
On a % basis he's got the 4th best assist %, 3rd best in 2021
Those assist % while He's been top 2 in scoring 3 straight years. #1 in 2023.

Don't worry. Barry Svrluga is busy writing lazy columns stating the obvious about how Ewing isn't the man for the job at Gtown instead of performing actual journalism and telling us things we don't know about Gtown like how they got to this terrible place.

Bishop is now 12th in all time scoring at GW, in only 3 years. He needs 71 points to pass Patricio Marino for 11th. That would most likely require at least one win in the A10 tournament. He needs 85 points to pass Corky Devlin, the only person ahead of him who only played 3 years, for 10th place. That would likely require 2 wins in the A10 tournament.

25 points 8 assists 5 boards for Bishop, in lets hope is not his last GW game
now for CC's "#1 task, convince James to return"

Bishop has been awesome this year. Anyone have any info if he’ll stick around or leave? Can he transfer again, don’t know how the rules changed.
