Time for the Colonials nickname to get one last season in the sun (or miserable mid-winter weather, depending on your point of view). Season opens tomorrow (Friday) with a three-game series at #11 East Carolina before the home opener Feb 22 against UMES (predicted weather cloudy and not too cold). This last trip round the bases for the Colonials might be a long slog, team is picked to finish 10th in the A10 after finishing 8 games under .500 last season.
Returning third team All-American Carter Spivey is slated to pitch the opener for the Pirates (he went 8-0 with a 2.83 ERA, 76Ks, 19BB in 76 inns of work last season). Games will allegedly be available on ESPN+.

Aside from rain washing out Friday´s opener and forcing a DH on Saturday, the series at ECU went pretty much according to plan EXCEPT that GW shelled ECU´s supposed All-American starter Spivey, rocking him for 4 runs off 5 hits in 2.2 inns of work in which he threw 72 pitches. Either he had a bad day or there is something to the batting order this season.
Worth noting that 4,800 attended the DH on Saturday and 4,100 showed up for the single game on Sunday. FYI, the biggest home crowd the men´s basketball team has drawn this season is officially 2,380 for the Dayton game (and BGF can attest to the accuracy of Smith Center attendance figures).

Lose 21-11 to Towson.

A weekend home sweep of Manhattan improved GW to 8-17 with tomorrow´s game against JMU the last game before A10 play starts at Dayton this weekend. The pitching seems to be an issue as the rotation is Kahler, Koester and pray for rain; team ERA is 8.01 (and Koester has 4 hit batters in six appearances, a tad Nuke LaLoosh!).
Spring is officially upon us, so head out to the ballpark and enjoy your last chance to cheer for ColonialsBall.

Chris Kahler, RHP from @GWBaseball1, will be headed to @CotuitKettleers: https://gwsports.com/sports/baseball/roster/chris-kahler/8395… Kahler started 13 games and went the distance in 3 of them. He went 4-3 with a team-low 3.57 ERA, lead the newly-named Revolutionaries with 79 K, and walked just 25 over 85.2 inn.
