Re: 2023 Transfer Portal Szn

Gotta figure Jennings knows he will get as much PT as he can handle and it will be immediate. Also, he has to  wonder “who will be my teammates?”

Re: 2023 Transfer Portal Szn

This is an absolutely fascinating off season.  We are realistically looking at as many as 10 new players on the team (assuming all scholarships are used).   Usually by the end of a season, we have a fairly good idea of our prospects for the next season.  Right now, if someone was to ask how GW looks for next season, I would say I don’t have a clue.  I love CCs having set a higher bar for incoming players and not settling simply to fill out a roster.  Of course, by June 1st, if we still have only  a 7 or 8 person roster, that may need to be tweaked a bit, but I trust Caputo (who appears to be a tireless worker) and feel good that we essentially have a clean slate

Re: 2023 Transfer Portal Szn

Qudus Wahab transferred from Georgetown in 2021 and returned for this season after struggling at Maryland, I see no reason why Bamisile can't do the same. Even with the new staff and only 2 players left from when he was at GW, we all know how productive he was in his one season at GW.

I assume the George Mason transfers will follow Kim English to Providence, it will be interesting to see how Oduro, Fernandez and probably Polite fare in the Big East.

Virginia Tech junior guard Darius Maddox is in the portal, he attended St.John's in D.C. as an underclassman before transferring to Oak Hill for his senior year. He was teammates with Ish Leggett at St.John's, and GW may have recruited him, along with Leggett

Mentioned in another thread and I don't think he'll be a GW target but Tafara Gapare entered the portal today. Woof

Re: 2023 Transfer Portal Szn

I hope this kid figures it out. From what I can tell, he committed to GW in 2020, decommitted, took a prep year, committed to DePaul in 2022, decommitted, committed to UMass, joined UMass and is now transferring out.

Re: 2023 Transfer Portal Szn

Almost 1,100 transfers on VerbalCommits and we’re still playing basketball.  Guessing we'll go over 2,000.  Maybe well over 2,000.

Counting 363 teams, maximum 13 scholarship players on each team, minus, say 20% graduating/going pro you end up with about 3,775 players eligible to transfer.  We could end up with ~55% of all eligible players transferring.

I guess as a player you have three easy periods to (re)negotiate your NIL.  1) before you commit, 2) during your "free" transfer when you don't have to sit a year, or 3) if you graduate with eligibility, during your last year.  They're just working the system as it was designed.

Perhaps the NBA awaits?

Too soon?

Re: 2023 Transfer Portal Szn

I'm guessing it's going to take a while for the dust to clear, as players in the portal are trying to figure out where their best situation is.  A few of the bigger fish (who we don't realistically have a shot at) need to commit first and then we'll probably start seeing more action on our end.  Going forward, it's going to look pretty scary for most teams right after the season.

One to keep an eye out for.. No info here other than ZB following (BTW also following his Mom)

Colorado freshman Quincy Allen

The 6’8” guard appeared in 11 games this season. Former 4 star recruit.

High School: A 2021 graduate of Maret High School. Named the 2020-21 Washington D.C. Gatorade Player of the Year, averaging 22.3 points and 10.3 rebounds while leading the Frogs to a 7-5 record in the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference - regarded as one of the top private high school leagues in the country. A consensus four-star prospect, he ranked 49th on the ESPN 100 national list and checked in at No. 68 via Rivals and No. 71 in the 247Sports composite rankings at the time of his signing. Had his junior season shortened by injury but returned in time to help Maret to a 7-3 record during an abbreviated Fall 2020 season. Earned First Team Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference honors as a sophomore and was the MVP at the 2019 Hoophall Classic. Played one year of club basketball for Team Takeover in Washington, D.C., helping the team to a runner-up finish at the Peach Jam.

Props to David Korn for catching this. Max responds to the goodbye post from ex-teammate Ismael Massoud. May be something to keep an eye on. May be nothing at all

Ouch indeed. I believe that would account for over 25% of all scholarship players in the entire league.

Names that stand out:   Jamison Battle, Jameer Nelson Jr, and 2 of the POY finalists in the A10 including the POY, Ace Baldwin as well as Oduro

Also Caleb Love.

Providence got a very big piece news with Bryce Hopkins saying he's staying under 1st year Coach Kim English

EJ Jarvis chose Florida.

Hunter Dickinson, who might be the favorite for national player of the year next year, is a surprise entrant to the portal.

Fwiw. Fordham had signed two transfers and URI picked up one. Plus Angelo Brizzi from Villanova to Davidson.
