RIP Dave Sollenberger

The father of Pardon My Take's @PFTCommenter and the Daily Beast's Roger Sollenberger passed away on Tuesday.

Why am I posting about this on a GW Basketball message board?

Well, it turns out Dave was a member of the GW Basketball team (and also baseball?) in the mid/late 1960s.

Does anyone remember him on the team? Maybe GW69?

Re: RIP Dave Sollenberger

Of courses I remember him.  A 5'10" guard who played in 10 games on the 1966-1967 team that finished 6-18.   He averaged 0.8 ppg and 0.4 4pg.   Who doesn't remember him?

Re: RIP Dave Sollenberger

I do remember …….Joe Lalli quite well-What a blast from the past. He was the “man” on that horrific team.
Having said that I don’t remember a lot about the teams between 1965 and 69.I started paying more attention
after I graduated. Also I was no longer doing drugs! From 67 to when I left the school went -as did the culture
In general-from a sleepy backwater provincial commuter school to a place full of hippies ,anti-war  protesters
A total sea change.A paradigm shift-exciting times.Basketball was on the back burner,if on the burner at all.
The school became alive.1945 to 1966 were of a piece-after that the world changed. It's changing again as I write this.

Re: RIP Dave Sollenberger

I remember Joe lalli  and Terry Grefe and lots of others,  and have a vague memory of Dave S. (Ft. Myer etc.).
GWU '69.

Re: RIP Dave Sollenberger

Grefe was a 6’2” forward!  We had a pretty good shooter in Dick Ellis.  With Babe McCarthy as coach, and an all-white team, we were very much a Southern Conference team .  This was my freshman year, and Garland Pinkston was on our freshman team.
