Using 10 handles constantly whining crying moaning doesn't help GW win basketball games
I will reiterate what I said in my intro post as admin that comments should focused on topics and content and not on the posters themselves. You can say something to the effect of "alums need to get off the sidelines" (that's a reference to our new AD's introductory speech), but please do not make it personal towards any posters here. No one here knows the personal financial situation of anyone else. For some, just renewing their season tickets is what their budget allows. For others, even doing that may be too much.
If anyone feels like there is too much negativity being posted, then feel free to respond with reasons why there should be optimism, or an explanation for why the negativity may be misplaced because certain decisions are out of GW's control. I've certainly tried to do that with the topic of scheduling non-D1s the past few seasons.
Also, to the extent the comment is about people posting under multiple handles, there is zero evidence of that happening here. End of story.

Welcome to your new "gig" GW0509.
I hope your ready to set aside time each week to deal with our resident wacko (I'm watering it down a bit to keep within the rules).
In this political season, my new chant to deal with him is "Lock Him Out"!
Enjoy your Holiday Weekend everyone.

I was taught to never roll in the mud with a pig…you’ll both get muddy but the pig enjoys it!
Thank you Dude (or is it Dick?) for your fundraiser emeritus comment. Keep it up bro!
Let’s give K State a game. We’ll get a great idea of where we stand. Who knows, it could be a signature win like the step back jumper from Mitola to beat Hofstra. It resulted in lighting up the Empire State Building! Who knew???
Enjoy the holiday weekend all

Was going to send this as a private message to poor GW0509, who no doubt is reassessing
taking on this difficult task. Though hope he knows it is not thankless--and we greatly appreciate it.
But despite the hints given somewhat gently, yet unmistakably, one issue persists.
It's reasonable to give people broad latitudes as a general concept.
But it is absurd to post charges of "whining" on a message board devoted to discussion
of college basketball.
Especially one that's been on a self-inflicted downward spiral for approaching a decade.
To think everything has been great, would involve serious questions about judgment.
In any case, perhaps the good guideline, when it comes to using the particularly grating term
"whining" and other personal attacks is: Would you say this to a stranger on the barstool
next to you?
If not, don't do it here.
So if it's a comment that would provoke someone when delivered in person, don't use the
internet to do the same thing. It's a very simple guideline.
Especially, but not exclusively, for this one particularly grating word dismissing fellow posters.

Just a quick note and then we should PLEASE get back to the topic of the 24-25 schedule:
One thing I don't know if Barry knew, or at least was quiet about doing, is that the Admin has the power to either edit your posts or to delete them entirely.
I don't feel comfortable getting into the business of editing people's posts (because I don't want it to turn into a back and forth over what I took out and what I left in), but I reserve the right to delete posts entirely if they are wholly inappropriate. That way each thread can stay on topic and serve the readers who may only occasionally log in.

The 2024-25 OCC schedule is what we can reasonably get given the A-10 scheduling guidelines and the perceived strength of our team based largely off of last season when much of the schedule was being made. If we improve this year as I suspect we will, the OOC schedule should also improve in following seasons.

Thank you
1) any idea on whom the last OOC Opponent will be?
2) home or away?
3) will it be announced before the end of August?

I think I have all 13 games ...
Home Games (8) - Mercyhurst, Hampton, NC A&T, NJIT, VMI, Army, Lafayette and UVA-Wise
Away Games (2) - ODU, American
Paradise Jam (3) - Kansas State and 2 other games

you are right
the Army game is not listed on the D1 Docket Site
and the Paradise Jam are the only games listed on GWSports.com
as well as no story about the OOC schedule

Is this the worst OOC home schedule we've ever played? I can't think of anyone that was as bad..

Appy St is not on this schedule even once, much less twice. So, no, it is not the worst schedule ever.
As for the home slate, Hampton and VMI do not get your "hate juices" flowing? A neighbor of mine growing up (who passed away last week) played for NC A&T before his long NBA career, so there is that. Sure, it is not UK, KU and Indiana, but c´mon in today´s world getting marquee teams to the Smith Center is a bit like expecting Travis Kelce´s girlfriend to play the Smith Center-- not going to happen.

could it be better? yes
could it be worse? hell yeah
based on scheduling conflicts i have 9 games to see that will cost me $81
and if there is a scheduling conflict with the Capitals i get access to the second seat
weekend games cost $5.00 roundtrip on metro
weekday games cost $9.25 roundtrip on the metro
cant beat that, if you love the game

Some of that A10 home schedule is a juggernaut. I would like to see 4-3 in these games with 3-4 not half bad based on who we are facing. What might our record be in these home games?

There are 2 more A-10 home games on the schedule, those teams are predicted to be in the bottom half of the conference
with a little luck, no injuries, early team cohesion
4-5

I was skeptical when you asked the question, but after looking at the data, I'd be curious if we have the worst OOC Home Strength of Schedule in college basketball history. For comparison's sake:
The 2005-06 Non-Conference Home Schedule featured:
Exhibition with Augusta State, followed by Kennesaw State (KenPom #308), Norfolk State (#288), St. Francis (PA) (#326), Boston University (#203), FIU (#274), and UMES (#325). Despite a neutral site game against #23 Maryland and a true road game at #19 NC State, it was still KenPom's second-worst Non-Con Strength of Schedule in the country.
Average KenPom Rating from Non-Con Home Opponents: #287 (Total D1 teams: 334)
2023-24:
We also had the second-worst overall non-conference strength of schedule last year! Stonehill (#359), William & Mary (#319), Hofstra (#113), New Hampshire (#246), Navy (#323), Coppin St. (#361), Bowie State (D2), Alcorn St. (#294), UMES (#347).
Average End of Season KenPom Rating from Non-Con Home Opponents: #291 (Total D1 teams: 362)
2024-25:
Based on what we know from GWRising so far, opponents and 2023-24 KenPom Ratings: Mercyhurst (n/a), Hampton (#341), NC A&T (#346), NJIT (#335), VMI (#353), Army (#344), Lafayette (#318) and UVA-Wise (n/a)
Average 2023-24 KenPom Rating from Non-Con Home Opponents: #324 (Total D1 teams: 362)

GW will win games, which is the point of the OOC, and probably a lot of growing pains in the Conference slate
Guys who do this for a living at a high level have mapped out the architecture of the schedule with a long term plan in place, whining about the schedule mindlessly doesn't accomplish anything
Donate to the NIL funds, buy tickets if you want to support the program and help as alumni
All 20 of the 1970-1972s here I hope we can count on your support!!

Thanks everyone. I guess it could be worse and I'm looking forward to the A10 games.

Maybe doing this Jeopardy style will help the message sink in.
Does accusing posters you disagree with of "whining" really add anything to the discussion,
except annoyance?
Is there any sports message board where everyone thinks everything is great--
and agrees 100 percent with every other poster?
Unless something is a personal attack, everyone here should be mature enough to discuss or even debate issues without denigrating the positions of other posters.

People may not like non D1 schools on the schedule but it is unfortunately now the new norm for the A-10. I read on another forum that twelve of the fifteen A-10 schools will play non D1 opponents this upcoming season with St Louis playing two. The only league schools that do not have a non D1 on the schedule are Davidson, St Joe's, and UMass.
