Has anyone heard whether we've scheduled any scrimmages or preseason exhibition games this year? I don't recall whether there were any scheduled last year? I think we scrimmaged Drexel in 2022 if I remember correctly. I had heard this summer that the NCAA was going to remove the requirement that scrimmages be closed to the public, however it looks like that proposal was scrapped for now.
I'm not too clear on the current rules, but it sounds like Men's teams are still allowed to schedule two pre-season scrimmages or exhibitions against non-D1 opponents that are closed to the public, with the exception being charity games to raise funds after a 'catastrophic event' (not sure how they define that). Are teams still allowed to schedule 1 exhibition game that is open to the public? I'm pretty sure there were exhibition games in the past that didn't count against the standings. With so many new faces, it would be nice for them to get an officiated game in prior to the start of the regular season.

Can't speak to the secret scrimmage but last year, the pre-season D2 or D3 exhibition game was scrapped likely because we were playing Bowie State during the season. With UVA-Wise on this year's schedule, I'd expect the season to begin against Mercyhurst without a pre-season exhibition game once again.

i am hoping/waiting on a team or conference to file a lawsuit against the NCAA and these restrictions. Selling tix for an ill defined catastrophic event and not for other reasons seems like illegal restraint of trade

Lost the scrimmage to Norfolk State.
@NSUCoachJones
Great to get first scrimmage out the way and for it to be a W. Good confidence builder for a new group. Brick by brick.

Traditionally - Howard and Norfolk State are the 2 best team in the MEAC, followed by NCCU. Their KenPom will peak somewhere around 220. Not sure if this "L" means anything as we dont know the strategy nor goal that each team was pursuing.

No good spin of a loss to a rebuilding Norfolk State, even in a secret scrimmage.

Well, so much for complaining about the home schedule. Perhaps we GW fans should feel fortunate that Army and Hampton have decided to let GW host them...
(Yes, it is a scrimmage and means nothing and is just a runout to let coaches try things on for size, but what does it say about a team that had problems playing defense last season when it has Norfolk St drop 81 points on it?)

My report says GW was missing several pieces and had a couple of players coming off injury who hadn't practiced much in awhile. I wouldn't read too much into it. GW has another scrimmage coming. I would expect a better showing once the injured get healthy and get to practice.

Citing that there is no good spin regarding a secret scrimmage loss to Norfolk State is by no means a sin. And, it certainly does not translate to "the sky is falling." These are clearly the thoughts of a troll.

I imagine that a GW team scrimmaging Norfolk State is trying to try some creative things, test some new sets, examine combinations of personnel to see what works. It's a series of experiments and you hope to find some wins inside of a final score that doesn't matter.
I imagine that a Norfolk State team scrimmaging GW is trying to prove something to themselves about how good they can be to develop momentum for the upcoming season. It's a truly simulated game and the final score is exciting.
Nothing to see here unless you've been there.

In any case, pre-season reputation-wise and psychically, we would have been better
off it were kept a secret.

Not entirely sure of everyone who played or didn't but Moss missed most or all of scrimmage due to an unspecified injury that either occurred before or at the beginning and Buchanan was just coming back from missing some time (due to injury) and was limited in minutes. I am pretty sure that there were others but those are the only two that I know specifically that were not full go. Of course, minus Garrett as well. I will see who the others were.

To add to my report above, I am told its been a rough fall for GW as far as guys suffering injuries and the inability to have practices with the full roster. The good news is that it seems that most of these are bumps and bruises and not long-term things.
