Where are the students?!?!?!? I am almost at the point where I say flunk any student who does not show up tonight.

I agree… and I’ve been witnessing it all season on ESPN+.  Why the hell can’t we get students to these? Drunk frat bros would love this. This is weak compared to the days I was in school (I was spoiled as I was there in the Lonergan Era).

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

That was rough.  Dukes just totally taking it to us (and them getting 16 from Max - more than he’s scored in his previous 3 A10 games combined - is making a huge difference.).

But we have to move the ball a lot better.  We had 3 assists on our first three baskets, but then stopped moving it and just tried to bull our way to the basket only to get swatted over and over.

Hopefully we can find some intensity in second half and be the aggressors.

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

? The name change would make a difference. Or that's what I was told. Where are the people (students and faculty) that pushed the change? Someone give them a call to attend a game. It's not like Ft. Myers where you had to drive or take a bus. Thousands of students just a short walk away and where are they? Smart move GW. Rant and rave. Hope we can win a few games with little support. Very upsetting.

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

Our offense looks bogged down.  Missed the wide open man 4 times.  Max will cool off. We should go 10 deep and press the whole second half. Duquesne was gassed with 3 minutes to go.  Moss is missed

Castro taking on Duquesne.

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

Student section looks pretty normal to me. This generation of students at GW just doesn’t come to games in large numbers…

Great fight to get back into this.

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

Down 1, we get a rebound and Buchanan tries to go coast to coast against 4 guys but misses - and it leads to a transition three the other way.

Yeah, it would have been good if he made it, but that 1 on 4 is not how we got back in, and it killed our momentum.

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

We’ve had our chances this half but just couldn’t make a play when we really needed it and dug too big a hole in the first half.  Credit to Max - needed career game to beat us.

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

I’m sorry, but that was poor coaching at the end of the game. A bad play out of the timeout followed by an unnecessary foul put the game out of reach…

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

Well, you win some and you lose some. When the outside shots fall (Dayton, UR) this team can take on anyone in conference. When the shooting outside is not white hot, well you get tonight (and the ft´s were uncharacteristically off, too).
No use crying over spilt milk. Move on to the next one.

Yup. I suspect this team will knock off some of the better teams but also lose to some  of the lesser teams in the conference and finish in the middle of the pack. Part of it is the parity of the league and part of it is that this team is consistently inconsistent.

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

Besides Castro and Jones nobody else had a hop in their step.
Too many sloppy ball handling turnovers and putrid foul shooting made Duquesne the better team.
And yet this game was winnable

I generally agree with this. Most of the guys (with a couple obvious exceptions) didn't look too bad offensively, shots just weren't falling. Big shoutout to Castro as he played his ass off. He has such a high motor and really looked great out there on both sides of the court. What a great addition.

On the negative side, I'm at a loss for words regarding Jacoi's sophmore slump. I really thought he'd take that big leap forward this year and propel us forward but he looks lost out there. He presses way too much offensively and dribbles into double-teams time after time. Another obvious negative tonight was FT shooting. We shoot closer to 72-75% and we win this game, simple as that.

Finally, I know DBJ is coming back from injury and needs some time to readjust, but the offense seems to stall out when he has the ball. He needs to improve his vision while driving the ball as teams will always converge on him when he's going to the rim. I think Caputo needs to figure out other ways to get him the ball outside of putting it in his hands near the 3-point line. Maybe use him as more of a post player on smaller players or have him cut to the basket from the corner more. I'm not quite sure but we need to figure something out there.

Not a great loss but move on to the next one.

I’m a Packers fan and Castro and Jones reminded me of Josh Jacobs. Like you said, the only ones who really showed up to play tonight. Buchanan was like Jordan Love, trying to do too much.

The positive side is the team does have some fight in them, even if we came up short. The negative is that the way we came back in the game was playing sound basketball and taking what Duquesne was giving us. Unfortunately, once we got the lead down we tried for the kill shot instead of continuing to do what was working. Autry trying a quick three after the non-goaltend and having it stripped away was a killer. Would’ve been better to use the shot clock and come back to a better look.

On to Mason.

Re: GW vs Duquesne game thread

Could Buchanan be one of the most overrated players to play for GW. He was 0-6 from the floor, missed 2 dunks that were gimmes and backed off taking a close in shot down the stretch. He makes bad decisions and outside of playing Junior High school teams has rarely influenced games especially in League Play. MG14 had many good thoughts,
