I see a bunch of social media posts with us playing Temple. Was this a secret scrimmage and does anyone know how it went?

Temple narrowly beat us today per Trilly Donovan

I have a question about secret scrimmages for those in the know. Are these actually 40 minute games being played, with NCAA refs, foul limits, timeouts, etc, or are these more in the nature of an intra squad practice game?

My understanding is it’s up to the teams. Sometimes there’s no foul limits, sometimes they’ll play one half and then work on scenarios against each other. But maybe that’s changed.

They are not so secret anymore. That's why you see so many reports on scrimmages on social media and elsewhere including even stats. It is generally up to the coaches how they will proceed. Sometimes there are period where both teams will just play. Sometimes there are periods where one team will rep a certain defense and the other offense. Sometimes there are periods for the last 5 guys on both teams. Sometimes there are time and score scenarios.
As for the Temple scrimmage, my general understanding based on initial reports is that it was very close overall and we did pretty well. I also heard that we played a ton of different lineups as CC was trying some things out (as he should). I am sure more details will follow.
The Georgetown game will be more structured because it is a real game. I do expect CC to continue to play a lot of lineups because the process continues of figuring out rotations. However, I do think it will be less than what was done at Temple as CC is starting to figure some things out.

so how good is Temple supposed to be? They've had some pretty lean years lately. Not that I'm throwing stones at them.

I think Temple was preseason #4 in the American. At least that is what I remember looking at

Any reports on who stood out for us in the temple scrimmage?
(As for the question of how temple is supposed to be, it really doesn’t matter. Knowing as Rising said that we played a lot of combos, you wouldn’t expect the result to reflect anything, good or bad)

There are several brief clips that were posted on Facebook, one of which was Garrett hitting a 3; another of which was Luke Hunger laying one in off of a nice pass, but generally could not tell much.

Maybe it is the coach in me but I am not going to post a lot of detail about what occurred in the Temple scrimmage. No use giving anyone a free scout much less Georgetown. I know you all want to know and I get that but not going to post specifics for public consumption. On Saturday, you will get a look at the team rendering the Temple scrimmage largely irrelevant.

A question that can be answered without revealing any family secrets: There is always (seemingly, and without fail) a player that shows up to the scrimmage unexpectedly in a boot or cast. So, with my sense of dread destroying my fragile id, which player we were all hoping to see play is nursing a season-wrecking injury?

The freshman Jalen Rougier-Roane is wearing a boot. Technically answers your question, but I'm not sure how much "we are all hoping to see" him play.

Since I am willing to assume that GWAA really had no idea that anyone was wearing a boot or cast when he posed the question, it's crazy that Rougler-Roane is wearing a boot. Do most college basketball teams have a player in a cast or boot on October 15? I wouldn't think so but it's probably more than I would guess.

Nowadays there is almost always at least one per team. Wearing a boot could be anything from completely precautionary for a mild to moderate ankle sprain to something more serious.

"Sources told A10Talk that during GW's 'secret scrimmage' against Temple on Saturday, a four-point loss, the primary focus was on trying out different lineups and seeing how different guys fit together."

Can confirm that.
