No bona fide point guard is such a weakness. GW. Is playing like just a bunch of guys
Online!
Keep waiting for the patented (but often futile) comeback.
But hasn't happened in first 37 minutes, so far.

Spin that one. (Sorry, "no Castro" is NOT enough of an excuse, especially since he did play against Davidson and Delaware, teams better than Fordham). We all atributed the game against That School Down the Street to rust, but it seems to have been more indicative of things to come.
The same dates The Crown takes place in Vegas, I am sure RevBall and softball have games scheduled so there will be a chance to cheer for GW.

Here’s The Dude’s upcoming spin -
“All-world, National Player of the Year and all-around best dressed center Castro would have dominated this game.”

The assistant coach who did a pre-game summary in the President's Club said that Castro not playing was on account of a minor foot thing and just "
recautionary" that he did not suit up. let's hope it is no more than that

What surprised me was there didn’t seem to be any sort of adjustment to our game plan with Castro out.
We saw a similar situation play out with Dayton where their bigs were out and they played much more aggressive on ball defense.
Trying to feed the ball to Hunger as much as we did was such a waste and I don’t understand how we couldn’t figure out Fordham’s zone.
For those inclined to be critical of Caputo as a long term HC, this game might be exhibit A of not being able to adjust to the realities of the situation.

Well said. Losing without your star center happens, esp after the heartache of a flight home after just barely losing to a top 25 team. But the inconsistency even with our star center is inexcusable and our undoing.
If my star center was down I would certainly try to keep upcoming opponents guessing by describing it as minor, etc.
Can anyone comment on body language for the team? When they came out for shoot around? Etc?
And not knowing Castro was out made me go big on them in the A10 Confidence Game. 😭😭😭

Yeah I mean he was on crutches leaving the court at half time and then when he came back for the second half he was using a leg scooter. So this feels hard to believe but let’s hope.

I usually ignore Patsos (if he mentions Gary Williams and HS coaches you never heard of one more time…), but he was begging them to take that shot inside the foul line instead of passing it out for a 3. Too bad they didn’t hear him.
He also said at the end that this loss has to hurt and he’s not sure it will.
and Byron Kerr committed broadcasting malpractice when he interviewed CC after the game and didn’t ask him about Castro. How could he not ask? I know he’s not supposed to ask hard questions but come on.
We didn’t look prepared for their zone without Castro. He’d have been very effective in the middle of the zone. Wonder when they learned he’d be out?

Fordham blows and they basically owned us today. Another CC coached season getting worse as the year goes on.

Well, CC hinted at some physical problems beyond Castro. If so, have to see what they were.
Otherwise, it's just inexcusable and that's putting it gently.
We played a 2-6 league team (that also lost to NJIT) at home. Almost 92% chance to win.
We got rocked and looked terrible. This goes way beyond the loss of Castro.
Ours is a deep team in terms of seeming talent and good NIL money. But we can't get it together--and gets outhustled regularly. We have determination to come back usually (not necessarily win, though). And that didn't even happen.
As Jimmy Patsos observed beyond his let's say ultra-politely, distracting digressions: why did this team pick 30 minutes into the game to get tough. And that didn't last long. We were killed on the boards, with
Fordham sometimes getting 3 or 4 looks. Only their bad initial 3 point shooting kept it from being a truly
bad blowout.
As Jimmy Patsos in addition to numerous digressions on Arthur Avenue, asked: Why did they take 30 minutes into the game to start being tough? And that didn't last long. Tough defense is possible from these guys, but a rarity. The cherry on top was a couple of their breakaways, including one with a showy slam
dunk that emphasized our chances were over.
Our preseason hopes, boosted by South Florida win, seem to be built on a foundation of talent that holds up like toilet paper.
Next man up pretty much seemed to be no man up.
Unless there's some real solid reason for today's performance, this is really disturbing.
Especially at home.
Maybe the word we are looking in explaining our puzzling lack of success is "desire." As in a lack of
desire teamwise. Especially compared to our lesser opponents.
This season was our best chance in a lot of years. We seem to have already blown it, unless February and March are very different.

Hmmm... Caputo says they took too many short jump shots at the free throw line? Huh?
I wonder what this team looks like next season after Castro departs? It doesn't look pretty, unless he is able to convince some amazing transfers to come play in a half full gym....

I can’t even bother to watch the presser, but if he really said that, lol I guess? Maybe he was hoping they’d hurl up more treys where they were popping them at a 33% rate???? It been obvious forever that he built this team around a premise that they were good three point shooters. Overall they are not. When you rely on needing to hit ~40% from behind the arc, you’re destined to not be very successful, unless you can defend and rebound.
It was so painful to be there tonight and witness it all in person. Made the cold night even more brutal.

I've been hesitant to renew my ESPN+ contract until I was certain GW had a team once again. After the Murray State ending and the Delaware fiasco I became suspicious about their early success so once again I didn't renew. But after today and the Fordham loss it's clear this group is not worth watching. It's not a team. Too bad! They managed to get it up for decent teams but not the bad ones. GW brought in a guy who can recruit but evidently not one who can coach. I think their hopes for a decent season are finished frankly. Terrible loss!

Bad loss! GW is lucky their gym is even half full. With a softer part of the schedule coming up more embarassments will undoubtedly continue. Looks like another CC coached season is headed for the dumpster.

Didn’t see the game, so thanks for the recaps.
We were double digit favorites at home and lost by 14? Certainly not because one player was out.
I think we all agree that we did not expect this during year 4 of the CC regime. Changes need to be made, and not just a recruit or 2.

This, I believe, was the third home loss and in not one of them did we ever have the lead (maybe at 2-0 yesterday). Caputo does the same things every season. His players get worse as the season progresses, his team gets a good start in the league (3-1 this season) and then falls apart (now 4-5). Neither Caputo nor any of the assistants (if they are allowed to) seem to make any adjustments when the opponents make theirs). There is a reason why we are 13-9 and Mason is 20-2: COACHING! This team appears done!

And, oh my God, they just gave Caputo an extension--based on one successful year. We've seen this play out with unsuccessful coaches many times. When will it end?
