Unless Schmidt was in the last year of his contract, the Bonnies are still on the hook for his annual salary for the rest of the life of the contract, so there would be no savings unless there was a buyout agreement.

Schmidt at least called it a "retirement" at his press conference, and it was convincing enough to me to be believable.

Sounds like things are getting pretty nasty in Olean. Local columnist accuses Woj of recruiting crappy players, forcing them onto Schmidt, interjecting into practices, telling Schmidt what to do. Apparently the two parties haven't talked since December. :0
Why is a journalist recruiting basketball players in the first place? Just because a guy breaks stories doesn't mean he knows shit about putting together a winning basketball team.
And how far does $1 mil per year go in Olean? Could buy the entire city with that money.

Good find. This was really well done.
Schmidt would make a good special advisor (on his terms) for a certain A-10 team that needs his
experience to help it get across the bridge.
Lot of dirty laundry there.
The most basic outline of the story, someone in Athletic Dept. administration interfering with the team sounds really familiar. Can't quite put my finger on it. But it rings a bell.
