There may be the solution (I say with a little tongue in cheek). We now hire Trey's dad as an assistant on our bench, to help out CC. Syracuse is on the hook for most of the reminder of his contract, so he should come pretty cheap. At least now we no longer need to worry about Trey transferring to Syracuse.

If you watched Syracuse play at all this year, you would have seen that Red Autry was somehow a worse X and O coach than CC. Not sure he'd be much help.

Penny Hardaway to return to Memphis
Survives one very down year following what's been a largely successful run

Thad Matta retiring
took an A10 team to the Elite 8 in his 30s, his early 2000s run at Xavier among the better 3 year runs in A10 history. 39-9 in league play, 3 straight NCAA Tourneys with wins and that Elite 8 Team to cap it.
went to Ohio State and turned them into National Title contenders, 17 NCAA Tourney wins at Ohio State (24 in his career) multiple Final 4s and a NCAA Title Game
Ohio State has not been out of the 2nd round since they "mutually parted ways" nearly a decade ago
Health played a role too, Matta still just in his 50s could pass for 70 ....a great career and a great Coach

Randy Bennett to ASU. Did a great job at St. Mary’s. A bit of a hardass, but got consistently good results. Noted for recruiting from Australia, so let’s see if that continues. A much larger budget will help

Bryan Hodgson claims to have been offered and turned down the Syracuse job before accepting the Providence job. Syracuse flatly denies that their job was ever offered to him. Given Hodgson's remarks to Trey after the South Florida game, I am firmly siding with Syracuse on this one. The jerk made no secret that he wanted the job and then turned it down? Not buying that. I can only hope that Providence has made their second consecutive poor decision regarding its head coach.
Elsewhere, Wes Miller takes the Charlotte job after being let go from Cincinnati. The Bearcats pluck Jerrod Calhoun from Utah State.with USU receiving nearly $4 million as a buyout. Earlier, Kansas State replaces Jerome Tang with Belmont's Casey Alexander. Looking like Gerry McNamara is going to be the choice at Syracuse. And, Greg McDermott is set to retire after a long career at Creighton (16 seasons).

Wisconsin reportedly considering firing Greg Gard after losing to High Point, his 3rd loss to a 12 seed.
Gard has either missed the tournament or lost first or second round every year since 2017-18 when he went 15-18
Missed out in the tournament again in 2023, then lost to James Madison the following year, was upset in round 2 last year matching his best result during this stretch
nearly a decade of missing the tournament or round 1 and 2 upset losses

Firing Gard now would be tough politically and optically here. WI athletics dept used to be self-supporting but just asked for, and got, $15M from the legislature. The football coach is already on the hot seat for next season after two losing seasons. Paying Gard and him both off would be a tough sell.

Believe me, I am all for replacing Gard. Not a fan of his at all. He took Bo's kids to the Sweet 16 in his first full year and hasn't been back since. It sounds disingenuous of The Troll to say "nearly a decade of missing the tournament or round 1 and 2 upset losses" when he's missed the tournament just twice in 11 years and some of his round 2 losses likely weren't upsets (but should we expect anything different from The Troll). The upset in last year's tournament saw the Badgers as a 1 1/2 point favorite over BYU, so not exactly a huge upset.
I agree with Wisconsin Colonial 1974 that the school is unlikely to make a change with football having something to do with this decision. Gard has been a solid regular season coach who has been unable to lead his teams to great success at the Dance. Considering that The Troll pegged the Badgers as a team seriously on the bubble despite having three of the best wins in the country at the time, only to end up with a #5 seed, it's easy to conclude that he may not be the best source of any reliable information pertaining to college basketball.

To your point Gwmayhem regarding the Troll, "America's Greatest Coach" has lost his last game for 26 consecutive seasons (I am ignoring the COVID season). Impressive streak! ![]()

Hubert Davis out at North Carolina
As an 8 seed beat Coach K's much better Duke team to reach a National Final in his 1st season
But a general downward trajectory program transition, from Roy players to Hubert
Then missed the tourney altogether the next year
Earned a 1 seed but upset early in 2024, followed by back to back 1st round exits the following 2 years which doomed him
Did some very good things but similar trajectory to Juwan Howard at Michigan
20 years in a row of having fake conversations with your other phony persona, to attack GW fans how unfathomably pathetic
Who replaces Hubert at among the bluest of blue bloods?

Can't help but envy Butler for hiring Nored as new head coach. A former player, who turned down an academic scholarship to Harvard to play for Brad Stevens during their NCAA tourney runs. He joins a former teammate, Gordon Hayward in the front office, to lead Butler going forward. Nice to see this kind of continuity based on the right basketball priorities, rather than the $20 million quick fix of the "power" schools.
As for the Tarheels, it's hard to shed a tear for them. With all their former wealthy star players and coaching royalty floating around out there, they should have no problem going forward. Same for Davis.
I agree that it's an unfair advantage for the big name schools to have the financial upper hand, but it still takes some basketball acumen to find the diamond in the rough either in junior college or high school. It also takes some skill, and luck, to retain the stewards of the game for the right reasons year after year. Going the building block rout has to be more rewarding than the one and done quick hitter imo.

Luke Murray is leaving UCONN after their tournament run to become the head coach at Boston College.
So he's got that going for him........which is nice.

Included in Matt Norlander's tweet regarding Schertz staying at St. Louis was a note that SLU would have over $10m to play with in building their roster for next year.
I'm very interested to see how we stack up to that benchmark when it comes to our spending. Given how much we supposedly spent on last year's team relative to the rest of the conference, I would hope we continue to be towards the top of the A10 in spending. In this new world of CBB we would be putting ourselves at a major disadvantage if we don't attempt to match the pockets of the top programs in the league. .

It’s an outlier in the A-10. VCU will be close but probably $1-2 million less.
We were in the $3 million range last season with almost a 1/3 going to Slim. Even if we only bump it up slightly we may be able to get more bang for our buck not having 1 player take up so much of the pot.
