Too bad the Post doesn’t cover local college basketball any more. Howard making the tournament would be a nice story if the Post cared.

Pittsburgh is a great city, but I'm not sure it's a great location for an A-10 tournament, which should always be along the I-95 corridor, and particularly in DC, as much as possible. 80% of A-10 fans and grads are on the east coast and the logistics are so much better. No need to drive to get around.

 
Totally agree on the I-95 corridor.  Pittsburgh is well off the beaten path for most and it’s also…well…Pittsburgh. Should try to be having this tournament in a location where people would actually want to go as an incentive. I’d rather stay home than head to a place that offered very little ambience….and yes, I’ve been there too many times to count.

GW did not get a bid to the NCAA´s (a shock, a SHOCK I say!) and the A10 only got a second bid because SLU crapped the bed in the conference tournament semis. 

Some tournament thoughts:

1) It didn't come to this so there will not be any real outrage, but had VCU been left out of the field with a loss to Dayton yesterday, it would have been a travesty.  I suppose it's naive to think this way but when will a selection committee start using common sense rather than emphasize dollars and cents?  VCU played great in a pretty highly regarded conference.  That has to be considered more impressive than what a Texas, NC State, or maybe 3-4 other P5 at large schools did?  If this is a function of the A10 Final taking place on Sunday and the Committee either being too lazy or uninclined to create a contingency bracket, this makes this so much worse.  Like many, I felt VCU locked in with their Friday night win over Duquesne.  How could it be that they hadn't even after their Saturday win over St. Joe's? (As a side note, it's just incredible that Dayton has now gone 23 years without having won the A10 tournament.  I would think they reached the conference semifinals in at least 15 of these years and yes, I know Covid dealt them a very unfortunate hand.)

2) More common sense:  St. John's goes 2-1 against UCONN including a complete annihilation in the conference tournament final, also finishes in first place (ahead of UCONN) during the regular season, and ends up with a 5 seed while UCONN gets a 2?  I get that UCONN did more in the out of conference but St. John's proved that they are better than UCONN whose leading scorer is a former Michigan Wolverine who would not even start for Michigan this season.   I can understand UCONN getting the better seed but a 2 vs.a 5?  Makes no sense.

3) "Bubble concerned" Wisconsin ends up as a 5 seed, further cementing The Dude's comment as arguably his most ill-informed ever, which of course is saying something.  That said, the Badgers drew a touch matchup with High Point, reminiscent of last year's first round vs. James Madison.  The difference is that the Badgers clearly did not have a point guard last year while Nick Boyd has turned into a one man wrecking crew at times.  

4) When the committee changed its view on placing more emphasis on a team's most recent 10 or 12 games, I was in favor of this.  Today, I think I've done a 180.  Would St. Louis, a team that has been leaking oil in February and March, end up on the 8/9 line if their last dozen games were emphasized?  Probably not.

As I noted earlier, Howard would be a nice story for the Post if they were still covering sports and not just running AP stuff. And the Howard women are in too. Really nice story that isn’t being covered locally.
