Hey, I hate this whole NIL/Open Transfer thing as much as the next person, but if a kid transfers because he can get more money elsewhere or it can advance a professional career trajectory, how in heaven's name can you fault the kid for doing so.   In fact, he would probably be a fool not to leave.  I wish it wasn't like this but this is the new reality, so get used to a de-emphasis on recruiting out kids out of high school and get use to the 1-2 year rentals that we can poach from other schools.    Heck, how often do you recall GW having redshirted incoming freshmen for developmental reasons as oppose to injury?  

CNN had a documentary last night, "Money Madness," on the economic and integrity issues in college basketball. Although much of it was devoted to the impact of gambling, NIL was also covered, including the challenges mid majors face. Fordham was one of the schools featured including extensive comments by Magpayo. Seems like a good guy.

Worth watching.

I saw the CNN documentary and agree it was informative i.e. all the point shaving nonsense dating back decades.

As for coaching in the present day climate of $$ and transfers, a couple of things never change: 1)Evaluating talent and 2) Developing talent.  I would credit Dusty May as pulling off some miracles at FAU as well as Michigan.  At FAU you could see how each player improved exponentially while the team blended as well. Michigan was 8-24 in 23/24 and second rd NIT exits in 22 and 24.  Last year 19-14 and this year 36-3 playing for championship.  That is remarkably fast even though the resources are there.  He knows what he wants.

Hurley developed his players to the max as well.  Look at Malachi Smith (who will probably play more minutes tonight because of Ball having foot issues) under Hurley. He's a different player than he was at Dayton. Tarris Reed has improved each year to the point where he can dominate.  Hurley deserves alot of credit for emphasizing that each and every possession is valuable.  He controls tempo as well as anyone, coaches his kids very hard, and obviously emphasizes discipline from the beginning of the season.

I thought CC did a good job in developing Castro, Aranguren, Hunger, and Marshall.  But that's pretty much it.  Let's see if we can be pleasantly surprised next season.

Adding an in-game assistant coach for Xs & Os, making in-game adjustments, etc. It's commonsense. The AD should help out.
Apparently this has been done before. I've read on these pages that an assistant was brought in twice during Karl Hobbs' tenure. One time it helped while the other time not so much. Opponents made adjustments at halftime while GW floundered helplessly. Caputo's performance review should show numerous examples of subpar in-game coaching beginning most notably with the Murray State game.

Guess we’re rebuilding around Aranguren and Hunger.  Should have plenty of NIL money to attract talent, though sounds like there is a real arms race.

Ironically Jones an example of good redshirting. But it doesn't matter anymore.
Don't know why we redshirted those two players this year, given this--and how it bit us in the ass with scholarship player shortages. They're paid. Take off the redshirt anytime we need it. What might have previously made sense to develop A-10 players doesn't make sense anymore.
 Nothing does. CJ seemed to regress a bit this year, outside of corner 3-point shooting. Sometimes, a great
difference, taking over in spurts. Sometimes, just another one contributing to us getting hammered. Not a real point guard. 
    After Autry, was trying to think what scholarship players we had for several years. Jones came to mind, including his redshirt year having a whopping 3 years at GW, playing 2. Care more about Autry and Garrett, if he would have a healthy season. As to the very apt point that it's the name on the jersey as expressed by posters above, it's correct. Even at our level now. It's all about money and the grass is greener somewhere else. Note to players, it often isn't.
   Fordham coach tried to put a positive spin on it in the segment I saw and does indeed seem like a nice guy. But it was BS and he no doubt knows it.
     This is getting so bizarre as to be depressing. What are we rooting for?

As someone else said. We all just have to root for the Jersey and not get overly caught up with the player

Based on what I saw this season, Christian should thrive at a lower level, get buried at a higher level, and if he remains in our conference or around that level, should feast against clearly inferior teams and struggle against the better ones.  I can't say I'm overly upset about his deciding to move on (just too many deficiencies in his game) but am surprised that someone who started every game and would have been potentially in line for an even greater role next year is convinced he'll have a better opportunity elsewhere.  I guess that grass is always greener...
