Think Tallent’s stats hold up no matter what era. Consider also that he played before the 3 point shot.
Bob Tallent was on Kentucky’s 1965–66 all white team that lost to Texas Western's all black team in the historic 1966 NCAA championship game. Tallent ultimately went on to coach the 1970-1971 freshman team, which was led by a deadeye left handed jump shooter with unlimited range that we now know as Wisconsin Colonial, In the words of Paul Harvey, now you know the rest of the story.
With all due respect to that dead eye Badger baller, the team of our dreams was the 71-72 freshman team that ended the Maryland frosh’s 23 game winning streak. Clyde Burwell, Haviland Harper, Pat Tallent, Keith Morris, Bob Shanta (subsequent 1B for baseball) and Ned Riddile (the Max Blank injury plagued story before the Odessa kid). If only Free Quebec had been a little older.

Not much of a story, at least the part about me!

With all due respect to the 71-72 freshman team, the 70-71 team, in addition to Wisconsin Colonial, had luminaries such as Bill Baird, Kent Reynolds and of course the immortal Tommy Rosepink.

With as little respect as possible, the ignominious assignment of Kent Reynolds to serve as GW’s Mascot George (à la the gun toting West Virginia Mountaineer sans any identity hiding mask) in order to retain his scholarship in his later years pretty much disqualifies that team from such gratuitous glorification in order to retain the friendship of your collegiate friend and fandom buddy as an object of blatant ragging on.. At long last sir, have you no decency?

The school first asked Bill Baird to be the mascot and he turned them down. He transferred from GW shortly thereafter, presumably because he lost his scholarship. What a crappy thing to do by the school. The story that was circulated about that team was 1 or 2 of the scholarship players were recruited were never scouted in person by anyone from the school.

Bill was my roommate- nice guy from rural MIchigan who didn’t feel all that comfortable in the DMV.
our freshman team did manage to come within 50 of the Tom McMillen - Len Elmore MD freshmen team.
