Does the Knicks win by coming back from 16 down?  Even I have to be happy for them.

If you're not from the NY area or otherwise have no allegiance to the area's sports teams, it's very easy to dislike New York sports.  Many fans are, shall we say, a bit cocky.  The Yankees won a lot as big spenders and now the Mets are trying to fit this profile.  Yet the more people I hear from, the easier it is to see how likable this Knick team is.  First and foremost:

1) They played as a team.  No less an authority than Walt Frazier has stated how much this team reminded him of Clyde's championship teams.  They looked for and found the open man.  They played selflessly.  They scored and scored yet dug their heels in defensively when they had to.

2) They were historic.  No team ever overcame as great a deficit in the Finals as the Knicks in Game 4.  Only one team had ever won more consecutive postseason games.  No team ever won so many in a row with as large a margin of victory.

3) They were underdogs.  Hard to remember this given how well they played but the Knicks were the #3 seed in the East.  And, nobody gave them half a chance to defeat OKC or SA at the start of the playoffs.

4) They fired a coach who had just led the team to the conference finals.  That would be Thibs who coached the Knicks longer than anyone had this century.  But Leon Rose felt that the Knicks had piqued under Thibs and needed a fresh voice.  They also needed to retool and start relying upon a bench which happened under newcomers Shamet, Clarkson, and Alvarado.  Speaking of Rose, that guy traded Julius Randle for KAT, and RJ Barrett for OG.  Front office executive of the century stuff.

5) The Knicks won without a bona fide superstar.  (I'll get to Jalen in a minute.) This wasn't OKC with SGA or Milwaukee with Giannis or Denver with Jokic.  It wasn't an unnatural creation of a superteam with LeBron or DWade.  There was no MJ.  It was a pure team that was greater than the sum of its parts.  KAT gave up shots.  OG was so clutch on both ends.  Josh knew he was the glue guy.  Mikael came to life at exactly the right time.  Mike Brown kept them loose and focused.

6) As for Jalen, it's hard not to be speechless.  Shots that are too daring for any of us to try by ourselves in our driveways become routine baskets for this guy.  I'm not sure if he's a regular season superstar or if he will end up being a HoF player but right now, he's the best postseason player in the game.  Plain and simple.  

7) And if all of the above hadn't applied, it should be inferred that 53 years is a long time to wait for anything.  Since 1973, the Knicks have endured a lot.  Teams led by Bob McAdoo, Bernard King and Carmelo Anthony which essentially went nowhere.  Contenders like Ewing-Oakley-Charles Smith-John Starks and Sprewell-Houston who came close but not quite.  Linsanity.  Obsession with European draft picks like Frederic Weis, Andrea Bargnani and Frankie Ntilikina.  Starbury.  Amare.  Eddy Curry.  Front office Phil Jackson.  Steve Francis.  Zach Randolph.  Larry Brown.  Charles Dolan then James Dolan.  NOTHING WORKED.

8) GWRising and I have butted heads on a lot but not on this.  It is weird, strange and surreal to think that the 2026 NY Knicks are World Champions.  It is also, incredibly well-deserved.
