Good find. Obviously, a young man who has a good basketball head. Didn't remember he was Butler's all time
assists leader. That obviously didn't translate to teaching players here. Wish we could have suited him up.
  Note: note going back to Butler as an assistant like he was here. But as director of player development.
  Maybe not salarywise, but this is the opportunity to get the veteran we're often talking about. Since our
end of game situations need let say politely, a little work to get to the optimal level.

Not much odd to me about the timing.  The Mavs and Jason Kidd parted ways a month ago.  Dallas also spoke with Jon Scheyer so this was not a slam dunk decision on their end.  As for Dusty May, he knows his job is to work with his players, not to "get them to stay" but to help give sound advice regarding their basketball futures.  Michigan's entire frontcourt will be drafted this evening, and Dusty helped them with their decisions to turn pro (notably Johnson and Mara).  A coach who constantly tells his players that they would always do the right thing by staying in school will not have many great players playing for him over time.

May could only make his decision based on when the job was offered to him.  His returning players have every right to be disappointed while understanding that this is a business and Dusty made a business decision.  By contrast, firing your coach in mid-September after he led them through a series of exhibitions in Japan...that's an excellent example of odd timing.
