Nor am I. My comments do not pertain to lower level D1 head coaching jobs. What I had in mind were high and even high mid-major (top 10 conferences or so). These were the programs who may very well have been blackballing him.

I've talked with several current and former ADs about why Karl hasn't gotten another chance. Fairly or unfairly (I believe the latter in the case of #1 and #2)) he is saddled with 4 concerns - 1. Reputation as being difficult to work with internally. 2. The Philly prep school scandal 3. Salary demands 4. His lack of willingness to coach at lower levels.
He's been close on a number of jobs but one thing or another has eventually derailed his chances. I know he can coach and recruit but combinations of the four factors above undoubtedly have hurt his chances since GW. At this point, I think he is just happy to coach where he can. He will do a good job at Duquesne and bring in talent there.

I expected Karl after GW, to go at minimum somewhere like Hofstra or Siena in the early 2010s, not 3-4 levels down but maybe a step or step and a half. Maybe Fordham.
Certainly if you compare Karl's resume to say, Carm's resume, Karl would be an easy choice.
