Obviously football is a big part of this, but the conference membership merry-go-round is still going strong. Madison (named after some guy who was president long after OUR guy was president) is joining the American by the start of the 2028-29 season. They actually have a nice football program (unlike that conference´s A10 defectors Temple and UNC-C). Still, at what point are the ripples only going to lap on the shores of football schools?

GWAA, for some time I’ve thought that JMU had a manifest destiny of going to the ACC. The writing has been on the wall for a while, with their really good athletic facilities, their financial commitment to further growth, and their subsequent on the field success, nothing has changed my mind about this.
My guess is it happened some time before 2040, maybe even 2035. It’s going to take Virginia Tech or UVA leaving the ACC, but when that happens, there will be a Virginia void.
In fact, JMU seems to be following the same script that Virginia Tech did beginning in the late 90s.
Regardless, JMU is a strong add for The American.
Now back to our regular GW programming. 😬
