In an exhibition tilt, Luke Hunger poured in 22 points on 5 made 3's in the first half against those pesky Engineers of MIT. Please bring on the regular season

Forgot he went to Boston College
Of all the transfers that one perhaps stung the most, we saw when Castro was injured you could run the offense through Hunger and how well he played when featured.
Maybe Lovro will be as good or better
One week away let the real games begin!

Agree losing Hunger hurt. Liked him a lot. Interested to see how he does against us. Poorly, I hope.

In his postgame comments, Caputo compared Vukovic to Hunger as someone who can shoot and pass as a big (but said he didn’t show it vs Georgetown because he’d barely practiced due to injury).
Lovro, based on what we already saw, will be better. But Vukovic as the backup center is the more apples to apples comparison and I’m hopeful he’ll be better.

Hunger had a 5 game stretch in the meat of the A10 schedule where he scored 17, 21, 31, 24 and 20
35 for 58 from the field, 8 for 13 from 3, 46 boards.
31 points 10 boards and 3 for 3 from 3 in a 72-53 win over George Mason.
I think we saw Hunger was capable of being much more than just a back up Center and would have played a big role on this year's squad.
Hope you're right that both end up being better but that remains to be seen.
Lovro certainly looked like he might be in one scrimmage and Vukovic played well for Oklahoma State last year off the bench.

Well, the season hasn't officially started so by definition, everything remains to be seen.
One difference I am anticipating from last season to this season is that our offense will no longer be playing through the center position. While Hunger did have a different skill set than Slim, the common denominator was that Slim, or Luke when Slim was hurt, almost always touched the ball each possession. That's not to undermine the importance of Dylan, Lovro, or Andrija but with the upgrade that appears to have made among the guards and wings, I would not have expected Luke to be an all-conference performer had he remained with this GW team.
The hope offensively is to have a minimum of 4 if not 5 scoring threats on the floor at all times. This team has the potential to play lots of players (meaningful minutes) while demonstrating great balance. In 4 years at6 GW, CC has always had either James Bishop or Slim Castro on his team. Those guys required much attention defensively. This year, it will be interesting to see opposing defenses that in all likelihood would be foolish to key on stopping one or even two players.

StJoe’s beat Georgetown in an exhibition. Just like last year, Georgetown’s shooting came down to earth when they weren’t playing us, though perhaps the real story is how efficient the Hawks’ offense was.

Salvaging some A10 honor,but depressing.
We blew another rare shot at them.
Like last year, many players trying to do too much individually.
Newcomers wanting to establish themselves.
Like last year,we need to play more team basketball.
And start doing so early.

There is perhaps another story that we should own up to. In three out of CC's four seasons, GW's defensive FG percentage on three-point shots have been pretty poor. The first two seasons were particularly poor ranking in the 260's nationally. This became a point of emphasis two seasons ago when GW held opponents to 31.6% three-point shooting which ranked 66th nationally. Last season, this slipped to 33.5% which was right about at the midpoint nationwide (170th).
I realize it's become easy to chalk this up to bad luck, as if to say that opposing players or teams always seem to have career shooting nights against GW. But maybe, this may have something to do with the way the team plays defense. Straight up man-to-man defense often takes a back seat to either switching when picks are set or attempted double teams that result in a wide open three point shooter.
These aren't free throws where a 70% shooting team at the line shoots 22-25 against us. That's bad luck. This, however, is not.

I have a third theory. We are playing at home in a game that feels like one that should count with a larger than normal home crowd. There is a lot of hype on campus for this game. We have not shot well in either game (30% from 3 and 42% from FT in 2026 and 28% from 3 and 60% from FT in 2025) and turned it over a fair bit against not a ton of pressure (13 TO's in 2026 and 17 TO's in 2025). We might be a little too antsy given the hype and crowd and that usually shows up offensively in those statistics. GW makes this game out to be much larger than Georgetown does when in reality it is just an exhibition game that means nothing in the big picture whether we win or lose. Probably St. Joe's could care less about all that. Sometimes you can be too amped up. We seem to play like it.

It’s also our first game with a real crowd, so that probably contributes to some overeagerness.
As for the three point shooting defense, I think part of CC’s goal this offseason was to get bigger on the perimeter to make it harder on opponents. That said, when we trap and help, we’re likely to continue giving up open looks.

Agreed with most of what is being said. On the other hand, losing to a team that a fellow conference winner beat just doesn’t sit right with me.
