Reminder that there will be another video chat with Coach Christian on Sunday, April 26th. I wonderful opportunity for the diehards to not only get updates directly from the coach but to essentially ask him anything you want regarding the program. You should have received an e-mail, but in the event that you did not, please note as follows from the Athletic Department:
"Thank you to everyone who called into Donuts from a Distance with Coach Christian last Friday. We really loved all the questions and seeing you all. If you were not able to make it or would like to do it again, there is another one this Sunday at 4pm. Instructions are below:"

I assume they don't want us non season ticket holders joining in?

FC...the invitiation was sent out to season ticket holders; however I strongly suspect that they will allow anyone who wishes to phone in to do so, especially if he/she has been a contributor. If you wish to call in but are hesitating because you were not directly sent an invite, I would suggest you contact Jennifer Montgomery (Jmontgo2@email.gwu.edu)

Another excellent "donuts from a distance" video conference meeting was held today, with over 50 participants present, with lots of questions on all aspects of the program asked. in terms of scheduling, the general philosophy was to play the highest ranked, beatable teams, but very few names were given for next season other than South Carolina at home and Delaware on the road. The school is also trying to schedule locally as much as possible. I suspect we can anticipate American and Howard once again. Coach had mentioned that Battle has lost 30 pounds, and given the height on the team, we can anticipate him as a 3 or even a 2. We can also expect to see some zone defense next season. I had asked to state who we will be most pleasantly surprised with next season, and the coach and all of the assistants weighted in on this one. Answers included Sloan Seymore, who is an excellent 3 point shooter; Matthew Moyer, the transfer from Vanderbilt who Christian said will be a great influence on the younger players. Bishop was likewise mentioned, along with Hunter Dean (the Southern Mississippi transfer who is eligible in December). As my own aside, I wonder if Dean would be immediately eligibile if the NCAA changes the transfer rule, or if it is only applied going forward. Many other great questions were asked, including concerns over Covid-19 impacting the upcoming season, the decline in free throw shooting, the impact of the controversy with the school president, fitness training during the pandemic, etc.
Florida Colonial...were you a participant?

LSF. I'm embarrassed to say I completely forgot about it. Thanks so much for the overview.

JC took questions for more than an hour. Hope there will be more sessions like Sunday's. Great way to get information on the team. Very classy of JC and the staff. I thought they did a good job of addressing every question asked. They didn't skip any questions. I especially liked the discussion of why JC treats players the way he does. He says you need to get the best players so that means you have to make tough decisions. And he also talked about how he doesn't yell and berate players. That is refreshing. It is sad watching college coaches lose their minds yelling at players.

Thanks for the information. Am wondering if there were any answers or follow-ups to the following:
1) Thoughts on how next season might look? No fans in stands? Limited numbers of fans? My guess would be it's too early to tell but am curious as to whether any contingencies were conveyed?
2) Why was the coaching staff so adamant on not playing zone this year if the intent is to play some next season?
3) If Bishop was an answer to who we will be pleasantly surprised by next season, does this mean that the coaching staff is counting on his being eligible to play? Or, is this more like "assuming he is eligible."
4) What were the thoughts regarding the impact of the controversy with the school president? Is this still a controversy? Not to sound insensitive but unless we're talking about reducing the numbers of subjects, professors and students in the future, which I don't think we are, it seems to me that the meaning of what LeBlanc essentially said boils down to racism being intolerable under any circumstances (even if a body of people are in favor of it). And for this comment, he is being branded as a racist? I don't understand this, but given that the majority of college basketball players are black, I'd be curious as to whether his statement has created any problem for this program?

I came into the chat about half way in so I don't remember all of the answers to the questions you asked but for this one Assistant Coach Graham Bousley said that a waiver has been filed and they are fairly confident that it will be granted. There was no attempt at hedging his answer. He said they have had luck in the past getting waivers granted and almost made it sound like they would not have taken on the risk if they were not confident in the waiver being granted. Who knows how long it will take and whether it will be granted in time for the first game of the season, but definitely the coaching staff is acting as if Bishop will be immediately eligible.

1. Question was asked about next season in light of the Covid-19 situation. I believe it was Tanya who anaswered the question, who basically said she did not have any idea of what the season would look like. She did mention the possibility of limited number of fans in the arena.
2. To my recollection, the staff did not discuss why no zone was played last season, but it looks like we will see a lmited amount of zone next season.
3. My recollection on Bishop seems to be the same as that of GW0590
4. The controversy surrounding of LeBlanc and its impact on recruiting was briefly discussed. Coaching staff said that at least as of now, it has had no impact.

Battle lost 30 pounds? That’s a lot.
Do you know when that’s from? He wasn’t heavy to begin with so maybe that’s 30 pounds since he got to gw and some of that was before this past season.
Assuming Bishop plays, think about how tough it will be to guard us on the perimeter if we have Bishop, Battle, Jack, and Seymour our there together. Or Nelson (though his three isn’t where the other guys are, but his slashing is amazing).

Hunter Dean got the vote from one of the coaches for the biggest surprise for next year as a strong above-the -rim player.

I thought that number of pounds sounded high also, Free. I am not sure when the starting point of the weight loss was, because I don't believe he could have lost that much weight since the end of the season.

It was also mentioned that season tickets application will be going out soon

They said it'll be hard to social distance after his dunks because we'll all be trying to high five each other.

Thank you LSF and GW0509 for your responses. It's always great to receive information, particularly during the off-season.

I was on the Zoom with Jamion; here is what he said about 3 questions raised here:
-- We will likely play some zone because JC feels we have the right guys to do that especially with the transfers
-- He sounds pretty confident Bishop will be eligible next year and will start at the point.
-- Battle lost 15 pounds.

Anyone know if there a way to get all of the “perks” of being a season ticket holder without actually being a season ticket holder, such as donating a certain amount annually or something?
Would be great for fans who are not in the DC area.

jmoiii-- I suggest you contact Jen Montgomery, Executive Director of Development for the Athletic Department. She could discuss your idea.
