Now here is an off-season topic if ever there was one. When coming up with a hot take regarding incoming freshman Noel Brown yesterday, writing about Mike Brown and SirValient Brown prompted me to wonder whether this is the most successful surname in GW basketball history. (Let's also offer a nod to Francis W. Brown, GW's center from 1920-1924.) At first glance, it would have to be but would Mike and Val win 2 on 2 games against each of these other pairs:
The Battles. Mike was a two time team MVP in the early 1970's while Jamison just set the school record for the most 3's in a single season.
The Elliotts. Carl and Penny might give them some problems.
The Halls. Kevin Peter would block the shots while Mike would need to do everything else.
The Harts. Sometime board contributor Antoine gets some love here, along with long distance threat Matt.
The Holups. Brothers Joe and John could be formidable though I don't have much of a playbook on John.
The Jones's. It would be a long game due to the collective defense, but probably not enough firepower between 1989 MVP Mike and local favorite Vaughn.
The McDonalds. Howard (Bucky) McDonald was a 6th round draft pick of the NY Knicks in 1959 while Joe would play solidly. Perhaps a sleeper team here.
The Mitolas. Brothers Alex and Adam likely would not last long though hot shooting could spring a possible upset.
The Rogers. Shawnta gets to play but has his work cut out for him. His teammate is Nip who did not play very often.
The Smiths. Going here with Jaason and Dwayne, a dangerous team on paper but one that likely does not match up well with Mike and Val.
The Tallents. Yes, we have three to choose from. I'll go with 5th round draft pick Bob and 6th round draft pick Pat. Sorry Mike.
The Websters. Troy and Darryl are not related but do have the advantage of having played together in college.
The Williams. Omar is a given but should his teammate be Ferdinand or DJ?
I have not researched this thoroughly so if anyone has others to add, please do so. I could not find partners for guys like Tony Taylor, TJ Thompson, Gerald Jackson, Lafante Johnson or Kwame Evans (all somewhat common last names) so please fire away if you can match these up, or any others.

I noticed that Travis and Mike King are missing. That's a small oversight, unless, of course, you are a KingBut even then, I think this is a great list!

You could field another Smith team with underrated Kinte Smith and Ricardos (Cot) Smith - though Collin Smith is probably the best Smith we’ve had, even if for only one year. .
Also Tim Johnson could pair with Lafonte Johnson for a team of two-year Johnsons.

For Lafonte Johnson, you could pair him with Maurice Johnson early 70s), the original Mojo.

The material gets a little thin here at times.
Favorite first name I guess is inevitable at this rate

I know he’s not everyone’s favorite player, but the first name SirValiant has to be a first ballot hall of famer for all of college basketball.

I set out to come up with an all-first name roster of 12 without looking anything up. Here is what i came up with:
Shawnta, Nip, Pops, SirValient, Nimbo, Omo, Regis, Montrell, Andry, Yinka, Tamal and Cheyenne.
Just thought of Jaaron. Perhaps he slides in for Regis?
If we want to make this a Jarvis era or more recent list, let's swap in Lafante for Nip.
