Season Ticket Renewals and Covid-19

Hello, all:

I am curious as to what people are doing regarding renewal of the season tickets.   I am becoming more and more convinced that there will not be a season due to Covid-19.  We are a little over 3 months away from the start of season, and given the state of the pandemic these days, with 50,000 plus new cases and 1,000 plus deaths per day nationwide, and every week or so seeming to introduce a new "hot spot", I just can't envision a scenario in which college basketball being played, at least prior to the start of the new year.   At best, maybe games played in empty arenas, ala the NBA, NHL and MLB, but why even do that?  I sent in my $100.00 deposit, but renewal costs for season tickets and club membership is thousands of dollars.   I suspect that the Athletic Department is going to be hitting us up for payment of the balance fairly soon, and I do not think I am willing to send in my check at this time but have not yet decided.  How are others going to handle this?

Have you tried calling them to see if the money is refundable if there is no season?  Maybe they'll prorate prices if there's only conference games?

Re: Season Ticket Renewals and Covid-19

I have been a long time Maryland Football season ticket holder. I have no ties to the University except loving Big Ten Football. This year I decided not to renew my tickets. The Maryland ticket office said there will be no refunds but a credit for 2021 or 2022 would be offered. This did not sound equitable. Then they cancelled the out of conference games. I am unaware that reduced prices or refunds were offered. I believe GW will follow this path. Try to obtain full payment for tickets and Clubs and then  figure out what to do. I have followed GW basketball for over 5 decades, in the recent survey, I was one of the few that cast a vote saying that the season will not go on. I have no reason to change this opinion. Sadly, enough.

No problem forking over the deposit but I would feel differently if say the full invoice was requested today.  At the very least, tell me what the plan will be, subject to numerous changes of course.  Specified maximum number of spectators per game?  How far apart are we sitting?  No food or beverages allowed?

I'll give the school the benefit of the doubt and predict that they will not be asking for any further payments until September at the absolute earliest.

Re: Season Ticket Renewals and Covid-19

This may not be a good question, but if the season is cancelled, will any of the player scholarships be in jeopardy? I don't know this, but I imagine the money from us season ticket holders helps pay for the scholarships. If any of our players would lose their scholarship because the season gets cancelled, I might consider not only letting the school keep my deposit, but maybe also making a donation if I could be assured the money would keep the player's scholarship alive.
Any insight would be very much appreciated!

No scholarship will be in jeopardy. Players have been assured of that.

GWRising, thanks. I think it's excellent that the university is standing behind our great student athletes.
