Anything happen while I was gone?

So, I was dumb enough to try to complete round-trip international travel as this pandemic thing started. (Word to those who might want to try living on the edge GWAA-style-- I got stuck for over four months in a country that included a dry law and travel ban as part of its response, so think twice).
Reunited now with my computer (and login access to my board handle), thought I´d just chime in with a few bon mots:
GW was one of the few teams in the country to complete its men´s basketball season, and the last A10 team to do so. That makes GW the winner of the A10 in my book and among the nation´s basketball elite. That´s my story and I am going to stick to it. That said, I´d say there is little chance of GW playing this season and almost zero chance of any fans getting to attend any games. Hate to be pessimistic, but if you had to go months in a country that produces outstanding wine without being allowed to buy any of it, your sense of optimism would be akin to mine.
The move to strip Marvin´s name off the most used building on campus was something I wanted when I was a student back before any of the current post-grad students were potty trained. Let´s remember, he kept the school all-white until the local government forced him to integrate and then he kept discriminatory policies in place well-beyond that. Where I come from, that was a disservice to the University and should have always excluded him from being honoured. But as for the Colonials moniker, I have made my view well-known in the past that there is a HUGE difference between the Colonial Army and colonists, much in the same way there is a big difference between a hootenanny and Hooters. Something about the paving of the road to Hell... And hey, why is no one mentioning the University´s namesake? Perhaps it should be renamed "The Private Non-Denominational Washington University"? (The NFL team should have gone with Washington Team of Football because they suck so bad that any time they try to play the sport one must ask "WTF?")
Coach Rizz is coming back. GW has never fired a women´s coach who has hung an NCAA banner. Still, any more of the erratic, disjointed play we saw this past season, and that precedent might need to fall. The parts were really more than the sum this last season and that is on the coach (see FC Barcelona for a case study).
ColonialsBallshowed some promise, or at least its pitching staff did, before the virus shitcanned the season. The optimistic outlook for women´s soccer and the the cautious optimism on the men´s side will have to wait for a post-COVID time. I would advise the players to take advantage of the situation to focus on their studies this term free from practice and travel requirements.
Also, everyone wear masks and keep your distance and wash your hands, I really don´t want to get marooned without booze again (marooned with booze? maybe). Stay safe and healthy everyone.

Re: Anything happen while I was gone?

GWAA, I had no idea (of course) of your situation, but welcome back to you.  Your wildly all over the place post is just what I needed today.  Assuming you've caught up on things, but the big thing to know is that the 2021-2022 team won't look like you're grandfather's Colonials.  Or rather the Colonials of recent years.  Complete turnover of players, seemingly outstanding recruits, very exciting times if we can ever see COVID-19 eradicated to any significant level.

In any case, welcome back!

Hi GW Alum Abroad.  I really enjoyed your post and I am sorry you were stuck in another country for so long when you wanted to come back to the US. If you were able to buy and consume the wine and had access to the internet, would you have wanted to come back?

I feel the same way about honoring a known and diabolical segregationist.  It made my skin crawl to see his name around campus and especially to walk into a building haunted with his ghost.  How it could take so many cold-blooded murders of black people by the police to get the University to consider a name change it is beyond my comprehension, especially with so many highly paid administrators running a major University in Washington DC.

Let us know what you think about all our new players and if you are as excited about our prospects once we can play again!  I especially appreciate your advice about taking the appropriate precautions and your good humor in these difficult times.
