Top Mid-major Transfer Classes

Thanks for that link, BM.   I don’t think any of those other schools can match the Bishop/Lindo combo that we landed.  There are a few other guys on that list I think are around that level (Terrence Lewis, Michael Ertel, Zion Griffin with Dontay Bassett and Anthony Nelson close) but none of these programs have more than one of those players.

Good point.   The Mitchells were a great pickup (and Moyer’s college performance hasn’t matched that HS ranking but maybe he’ll blossom under JC)

Anyways, seeing that Bishop is listed as a sit-out here, any word on his eligibility appeal?

BC, thank you for posting this. As an avid reader of the Washington Post, I don't know how I missed it in the first place. I am really happy you posted this.  I have always liked Dave Paulson, but now I respect him even more. As for JC, he's been a gift to GW, a welcome breath of fresh clean air.  Also, the team video lifted my spirits.  I (and I suspect so many others) could use the strength these days!   What an excellent group people JC has assembled.

The GW Hatchet basketball previews are out and while I'm happy to allow a fellow poster to comment on the women's preview, here are some observations on the men's side (and great job to the four writers who contributed):

1) As has been frequently mentioned, the team is hoping to play at a faster pace.  Hoping for 70-74 possessions per game compared with 66 last season.  JC acknowledges that this may not sound like a big difference but it actually is.

2) Hoping to shoot 48% of overall field goal attempts from 3, in addition to playing lots of pick and roll.  We know that Jack, Battle and Seymour are all potent from behind the arc but Bishop and Brelsford are also legitimate threats.

3) On the freshmen, JC is impressed by Brown's ability to score from almost anywhere, Ball's defense, and Brelsford's ability to score and distribute.  JC also suggested that they can learn a lot from the guys playing in front of them.

4) Good article on Maceo's final season.  It was about a year ago when some here pondered how he'd handle Justin Mazzula leaving the team.  Rather than pout, Maceo became a true leader on this team.  He has been very quick to take younger guys under his wing and help show them the ropes.  Great to read.

5) This will be the first time in 20 years that the team will not have a single international player on the roster.  Ricky Lindo, who sits this year, does have dual citizenship with Panama, but has lived in the U.S. for most if not all of his life.  JC is not adverse to recruiting foreign players (related note:  Gapare has recommitted and is now a 2022 recruit, as was mentioned here) but he would only want the true standouts from their respective countries, and not someone just to have an international player.

6) GW will be the only A10 squad not to have at least one international player on its roster this season.  As Mel Allen would have said, "how bout that?"

7) There will be greater defensive emphasis this season on bottling up the lane.  I suspect that Chase, Hunter and Matt will all see some time protecting the rim.  Plus, the team will show some zone but my guess is that it will not be used for extended stretches.  There will be more full court pressing this season.

8) Jameer has worked this summer on his outside shot and his ball handling.  He and James will be the primary point guards.  It will not surprise me to see them each play the point while the other one is on the court, based on defensive matchups.
