It’s worth remembering that Buchanan was a JC recruiting target and chose Virginia tech before Caputo was hired.  No idea if Caputo or staff has any relationship with Buchanan or is interested in him.

Anyone have any details regarding Buchanan's redshirt?  Was he legitimately injured or just not ready to contribute to VA Tech as a freshman (as in too many guys playing his position in front of him)?

Buchanan was a much better fit at GW. He was not a good fit at Virginia Tech. JC tried but the AAU guys got in the way. GW was just not sexy enough to put on social media. But it's all about fit. Most kids these days can't see it. And then they are in the portal ... just like that.

It was the latter. I don’t think it was even not ready to contribute as much as just so far down the depth chart it didn’t justify burning a year of eligibility.

The life of a coaches wife during portal recruitment

Julie Caputo@JulesCaputo
I really appreciate that the cherry blossoms bloom during portal kombat time! Makes DC look extra pretty for recruits!

Just in case some of you missed Mike K posting this in the recruit thread, I'll put it here. Darren Buchanan mentions GW as one of the schools he's heard from. Even if CC did not recruit Buchanan to Miami, I'm assuming any local player who received limited playing time at a BCS school will get interest from GW regardless of who the coach is, based on the track record with guys like Creek, Zeek, Lindo, Bishop etc.

Jamion told me at one point that if Buchanan chose Virginia Tech it would only last a year. He really wanted him.

Justyn Fernandez in the portal now after Kim English leaves for Providence. Was GMUs 3rd highest rated recruit ever. Showed potential in a few games, including their win against us this year

Missed this earlier as well but Oduro is leaving GMU

Updating this a second time. Ronald Polite III also leaving GMU. Whoever they bring in will have a full rebuild on their hands. Mason losing 50+ppg, over 50% of their rebounding, and nearly all of their major assit contributors

Quincy Allen is transferring from Colorado. Put up modest stats in Boulder but was a big fan of his game out of HS. 4-star wing from Maret School.

Having now twice washing out in a power conference, it would not shock me if he again landed up in the A-10

Can Bamisile do this? Looks like at least NCAA just issued new transfer rules, supposedly cracking down on 2 time transfers.
Oddly it supposedly limited those who were told they wouldn't have a place on the team. Or at least that's what people are saying. Those more schooled in this, assuming anyone can interpret the NCAA outside of screwing non-power schools, can analyze.
Not salivating over a theoretical Bamisile return.

If he graduated, he can transfer immediately.  If he didn't he has to sit a year.

If Bamisile can graduate in three years while going to three schools, hats off to him. If we take the NCAA at their word he probably shouldn't get another waiver. But if they, as Jon Rothstein says "continue to give out waivers like seedless watermelon at a 4th of July party" then he could be in luck. We all know he is talented but I just hope someone advises him to transfer somewhere he can play immediately.

FWIW, from a logistics and academic credit perspective it could make sense to return to GW... not that either of those things seem to be considerations in transfers these days

With the possible exception of Hunter Dean and James Bishop, every player that JB played with and every coach will have been gone.   And he has only been gone for one season.  Talking about blowing up a program and starting from scratch.  As for Dean, I can't help but think that he will be back.    Coach has been stroking him (talking him up) all season and seems to have raised his level of play.  He would also be the leader of next seasons team based upon his seniority.   And I can't see any school throwing a whole lot of money to get him.
