On Wednesday, A10 teams won 2 of 3, including a landmark win for Loyola Chicago .

Loyola (3-4) 73, Northwestern (H,3-4) 68.  First win for the Ramblers after 25 losses to the Wildcats.  Head coach Allison Guth was an assistant under Joe McKeown for 2 seasons, 2013- 2015.  Sam Galanopoulos scored 20 for Loyola while Alysia Fisher had 19.

Penn (5-2) 79, LaSalle (3-3) 71.  Makayla Miller had 23 points for the Explorers.

Davison (H, 6-1) 64, App State (4-2) 41.  Elle Sutphin did not play for the Wildcats so Charlise Dunn stepped up to start and had 16 points.  Suzi-Rose Deegan led the scoring with 21 points.  Millie Prior had 14/13.  Issy Morgan had 7 points, 8 boards and 7 assists.  Davidson won the rebound battle 47-27.  Wildcats received 2 votes in the AP poll this week.  Still no recognition from the other poll.

There were  3 national games that featured teams with transfers from A10 schools.  Notre Dame beat host Tennessee 74 - 69.  Anna DeWolfe (Fordham) had 11 points, 1 assist and 3 steals fro the Irish.  She is a starter and is 5th in scoring with 9.1 pig.

Louisville beat Ole Miss 64 - 58 in another battle of ranked teams.  Sydney Taylor (UMass) scored 8 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the Cardinals.  She is tied for second in scoring with 11.5 ppg.  Ole Miss was 13 - 28 overall in FT but 2 - 12 in the fourth quarter.

#25 Princeton (5-2) beat Seton Hall (4-3) 75 - 71 in 2 overtimes.  It's rare for a non Power conference team to have 2 losses so early and be ranked.  Princeton has a years long track record of winning and this season have beaten #20 Oklahoma with losses to #3 UCLA and #19 Indiana.  Tigers have beaten Duquense and a good Middle Tennessee team.  URI is next.  For Seton Hall, Makenna White (UMass) had 4 points and 3 rebounds in 15 minutes against Princeton, while I'yanna Lops (St Bonaventure) was scoreless in 7 minutes.  They are 8th and 9th in minutes for the season for Seton Hall.

GW was the only winner in 4 A10 games on Thursday.

GW (H, 4-4) 91, Cheney (2-2, that's what the box score said) 30

Quinnipiac (2-4) 61, Rhode Island (H, 5-3) 59.  Shooting woes continued for the Rams. as they blew a late lead and then lost on a tie-breaking, buzzer beating jump shot.  URI was 1 - 14 fror three pointers while the Bobcats were 6 - 10.  Rams were 14 - 26 FT, including 6 - 13 in the fourth quarter.  Maye Toure had 17 points and Teisha Hyman was 14/9.

Tough Friday night as all 3 A10 teams lost.

Purdue (4-4) 67, Dayton (H, 4-4) 59.  Ivy Wolf and Anyssia Jones were the leading scorers for the Flyers with 10 each.

Wichita Stte (H,4-4) 78, St Louis (4-4) 59.  High scorers for the Billikens were Brooklyn Grey, Mariavia Shavers and Camree Clegg with 11 apiece.

Yale (H, 2-6) 70, UMass (1-8) 62.  Yale beat Marist earlier in the week for its first win.  UMass' biggest issues remain lack of rebounding (margin was 36 - 21 Yale) and 3 point shooting, only 2 - 8 for Minutewomen while Bulldogs made 7 of 19.  UMass had 20 personal fouls to 10 for Yale, which had zero until late in the second quarter.  Tori Hyduke was the leading rebounder for UMass with 5,

UMass did get Jermany Mapp back after 2 games out with an injury.  Chinenyu Odenigbu (6' 5" Walpole Ma) was 3-3 in her college debut.  The other "big" freshman Lilly Taulelei scored 13 with 6 of 8 FG.  But the two freshmen only combined for 4 rebounds.  Having 2 mobile bigs gave Hyduke a more opportunity tp penetrate and dish off for easy lay-ups.  She had 4 assists, 8 points (all during a second half rally) and 2 turnovers. Hyduke continues to play a lot of minutes, 35 last night.

UMass dressed 9 for the first time this year, although the 3rd freshman didn't play a lot after maybe suffering an early injury.  Yale is not deep but they have an experienced starting corps.

St Louis salvaged the day for the A10 with a home win over Southern Indiana of the OVC.

Towson (H,6-1) 68, GW (4-5) 60.

Boston College (H, 5-3) 95, UMass (1-9) 57.  BC had 42 points in the paint.  Eagles recently beat Minutewomens next opponent, winless UMass Lowell., by a similar margin.    Tori Hyduke was out with an ankle sprain.  Wouldn't have mattered to the outcome, but she's the only effective point guard.  Jermany Mapp scored 14 points.  Stefanie Kulesza had 11 points and 7 rebounds.  Freshman bigs contributed on offense with Lilly Taulelei scored 12 points (6-6 FG) in 19 minutes.  Chineye Odenigbo had 7 points (3-6 FG, 1-4FT.). Avery Childers got in her first action of the year as she comes back from an injury.  Just played a minute.  She's a recruited walk-on.  Three transfers still haven't played.

Providence (H, 4-5) 51, URI (6-4) 50.  Rams did not score in last 3 minutes according to box score.  Friars hit a 3 pointer at the 2 minutes mark.  Rhode Island shot 26.2% (16-61), including 18.2% (4-22) from beyond the arc.  Teisha Hyman led the Rams with 18 points.  Maye Toure had an 11/11 night.

St Louis (H, 5-5) 89, Southern Indiana 93-4) 53.  Kyla McMakin had 27 points while 4 other Billikens hit double figures.

Tough Thursday for A10 teams, 0-3.  No more undefeated teams.

Utah 74 (8-1), St Joseph's (H, 8-1) 48.  Nationally ranked Utes poured it on from the tip off.  Talya Brugler scored 16 for the Hawks.  Alissa Pitts had 31 for Utah.  Can St Joes bounce back against Villanova?

Lehigh (H, 8-1) 106, LaSalle (3-6) 60.  Nicole Melious led the Explorers with 16 points.  Will Coach Mountain be on the hot seat at the end of the season?

Siena (H, 3-3) 65, Fordham (5-5) 62.  Emy Hayford scored 22 points for the Rams and Taylor Donaldson had 18.  In what seem to me to be weird teams stats, Fordham had 21 turnovers and 19 steals, while winner Siena had 28 turnovers and 8 steals.

Davidson (H,9-1) beat High Point (4-6) by 77 - 40 in the only Friday game.  Suzi-Rose Deegan led the scoring with 22 points, all in the first half.  Mallorie Haines had 14.  Millie Prior scored 13.  She had a block, and has at least one block in all 10 games, and is 23rd in the country in blocks per game.  All 10 Wildcats scored.  Their four freshmen played a lot.  Their roster is 13.  I watched most of the game and the announcer did not discuss the reason for Elle Sutphin's absence.  Davidson's win over Dayton earlier in the week was the first over the Flyers after 12 losses.  With tonight's win, Coach Gayle Faulks career record, in her seventh season, is 95 - 94.

Alissa Pili, who dropped 31 for Utah at St Joesph's, is the 7th leading scorer in D1.  I misspelled her name thanks to my senior citizen eyes. Pili is from Anchorage and is in her 2nd year as a Ute after 3 at USC.   The Hawks play Villanova. on Saturday with the 4th leading scorer, Lucy Olson.

and 48 points in the paint.  Stefanie Kulesza had 14 rebounds, 8 points and 5 assists.  Freshmen Dallas Pierce knows how to fill a stat sheet.  In only 11 minutes she had 10 points (4-5, 2-2 beyond the arc) 2 rebounds and 4 fouls.  The whole team had 11 fouls for the game.  Alexsia Rose (East Carolina) made her debut for UMass, scoring 5 points.  Bre Bellamy, who usually starts, did not play and I didn't see her on the bench.

Tori Hyduke started and played 23 minutes, after missing the last game.  She had a wrap on her right ankle but moved okay.  She scored 6 points (3-6), had 2 rebounds, 3 assists and no turnovers.  She sometimes played a wing rather than point guard.

On Thursday Duquense extended its winning streak to 3 beating  Longwood, aided by a 25 - 4 first quarter.  Game was played at LaRiche University in Pittsburgh, which has been an alternative venue for the Dukes in the past.  Not sure why they played there although maybe ti had to do with a late morning start

Duquense (6-3) 89, Longwood (2-7) 69.  Tess Myers scored 35 points on 12 - 18 shooting, including 11 - 16 from beyond the arc.  She broke Duquense and A10 records for most 3 pointers in a game, and eleven was the most by a D1 player this season.  Myers added 5 rebounds.  Naelle Bernard scored 14 and Kaitlyn Ammons had 10 off the bench.  Megan McConnell had 9 assists along with 8 points and 3 rebounds.

Five games tomorrow.  I'm hoping to attend double header tomorrow of Florida Atlantic vs. St Bonaventure at 4 (ESPNU) followed by UMass v West Virginia at 6:30 (ESPN.). So report may be late or abbreviated., if  I can post at all.

Thursday night:

Rhode Island (H, 8-5) 59, Harvard (6-6) 56.  After leading by as many as 13 in the 4th quarter, Rams needed a last minute 3 pointer by Sophie Philips to take back the lead and get the win.  Maye Toure had 18 points and 8 rebounds.  Three other starters were in double figures - Phillips with 12, Dee Dee Davis (Manhattan) with 12 points and 4 assists, and Teisha Hyman (Syracuse) had 11 points and 8 rebounds.  Anaelle Dutat (6' Soph. from France) only had 2 points but 10 rebounds.  Dutat has replaced 6'5" Tenin Megassa in the starting line-up the last 2 games.  Megassas did not play against Harvard.

The Crimson were without star Harmoni Turner (22,3 ppg) who suffered a knee injury in early December and is out indefinitely.
