Ohio, who GW beat, won tonight 108-28

108-28! you can guess what type of opponent they were playing.

Speaking of 20 something points, do we  STILL hold the record for fewest points allowed in a D1 game since the shot clock advent???

Providence blows out Marquette!!   72-57

In former superstars turned Coaches news, 1  stock down, 1 stock up

Juwan Howard's Michigan program has been slipping year to year under him, they are 6-6 after another loss today
19-15, 18-16, and now 6-6 in the non conference. The great John Belein left behind a Michigan program that was winning 30 a year with about 7 losses, two National title games.   things have been trending down year to year under Howard who looks poisted to miss the tourney for the 2nd year in a row, what a drop off

On the Stock riser, Penny and Memphis put a whoopin' on UVA! woah!  Penny has things rolling at Memphis
, they look very well situated for a 3rd straight NCAA Tourney
Look at the resume they're putting together already:  Wins over:   UVA Michigan Texas A&M Clemson Missouri Arkansas and VCU.   6 Power 5 wins in their non conference already all but 1 away from home.

Nominee for most entertaining post-game presser by a D1 coach in 2023 as ND gets torched at home by a former Irish walk-on guard and the Citadel.

Time running out for Notre Dame men's basketball to stack good days/wins (indystar.com)

6'10' 2024 GW recruit Garrett Sundra from Paul VI (Fairfax) committed there.  He had an unofficial visit with Caputo et al..  Would be nice to get him if ND blows it up.

One thing interesting about the press conference is he specifically called out three players for lack of effort and basically threatened to force them to transfer.  One is his son.  The other two are transfers he recruited, one from Seton Hall and one who he brought with him from Penn St.

Caputo has been super picky about who he offers because he’s said it’s not who you miss on that kills you’d but landing the wrong guys is what kills you.

Maybe Shrewsbury can learn from CC how to recruit max effort guys who fit the culture you’re building.

Speaking of Seton Hall, what a win tonight for the Pirates, Shaheen Holloway who took Saint Peter's to the Elite 8 has Seton Hall on their way back up

Radford beats West Virginia! Radford is pretty good actually this was not a huge upset, but what a road win of a Power 5 for Radford.

Archie Miller’s URI Rams lost at home to NH. That’s 5 in a row and 7 of the last 9 for the $2.5 million little man. Money can’t buy you love.

Yesterday, December 21 was not a good day for the A-10.  The conference went 4-4 straight up that included LaSalle's win over a Division 2 team.  Against the spread on the other seven games, the A-10 was 0-7 with GW, Richmond and Davidson not coming close to covering in home games.   In addition, Fordham and Rhode Island lost at home as favorites.   St.Joe put in a good effort but Charleston covered the 2.5 spread in the only true road game for the conference.  UMASS lost to Ga. Tech in Hawaii as a 2.5 favorite..

For those with time on their hands today...George Mason is up on Tulane in the 2nd half.  And tonight, the opportunity to scout 2 upcoming opponants as Maryland Easter Shore plays VCU tonight (Friday) at 7 pm.  Both games on ESPN plus.

George M  ason beats Tulane by 3 on the road.   Tulane was 8-0 at home prior to the game.   Who knows?  With a NET rating of 82  before this win, they may be putting themselves into a position for some consideration for the tournament  with a strong conference performance.

Perfect day for the A10

Really good road win for 10-2 George Mason at Tulane. Tulane came in 8-2 and top 100

Yale is beating Kansas in the 2nd half.  If GW ever gets anywhere near the level Kansas is on, maybe then I'd be less pleased with narrow victories over less talented teams, but until that day I'd take every victory GW can get.

As I previously stated, everyone is entitled to their opinion.  And it goes without saying that winning is preferable to losing; nobody would argue this.  That said, if anyone was pleased with Thursday's win, they simply can't possess any real expectations for this team regardless of whether this team is anywhere near the level of Kansas or not.

Here is what Garrett Johnson said after the game:  "We took a step back today."

Here are some Chris Caputo quotes about the game:  "Not really pleased with the way we played."  "Our worst defensive game."  "Thought they manhandled us."  We just didn't have it today (defensively)."  "We do over share the ball (leads to turnovers) and we need to mitigate this."

It's nice to see here that most posters (including myself) think and feel similarly to our players and coaches.  It's not only more than OK to place expectations on this team but by doing so, it makes the superior performances that much more gratifying.  Very few GW fans walked out of the Smith Center feeling grateful that they could "take the win."  Not that we weren't thankful for the win when compared to a loss, but the overwhelming feeling among players, coaches and knowledgeable fans was that a lot went wrong and there was much to work on.

And since this is the Other Games Thread, I'll just add that Shaka Smart's team defeated Ed Cooley's team by 30 points yesterday.  Thought I'd mention it just in case The Dude was busy and couldn't get to posting this result.  LOL.

I'm aware BC. The point is that mighty Kansas was losing at home to an Ivy league team in the 2nd half.

 We;re not Kansas.  We're a rebuilding A10 program that's now 10-2 with a rotation of mostly Freshmen.

How about showing some respect to the other team, ,tipping a cap once in awhile to an underdog opponent and enjoy the wins over them.

Speaking of 10-2, Josh Oduro 19 points 14 boards 6 assists 3 blocks powering Providence, now 11-2 over Butler, days after blowing out Marquette.

Couldn’t agree more. In my view the biggest thing you look for when you play the kind of lame-ass schedule that CC believes is in the best interest of the team and the league is for obvious progress to be made…..for the team to begin playing well as a unit…becoming cohesive amd IMPROVING. if anyone can look at the last couple of games (four of the last five, actually) and convince themself that the trend line is pointing northeast, well I guess it comes down to who are you gonna believe? Me? Or your lyin’ eyes?

Florida Atlantic beats Arizona!!

Double overtime what a game what a win!!

The defending national champion UConn beat St Johns, but you can really see how much better Pitino's St Johns team is already.  They will be a force quickly

Penny's Memphis team has another win over an SEC team today, that's their 6th Power 5 win already, they also beat VCU.  What an OOC for Memphis.   6-2 vs Quad 1 and Quad 2.  two top 20 Net wins

McNeese won at Michigan, 87-76!

The descent from National title games to losing at home by double digits to McNeese to finish 6-7 in the OOC under Juwan Howard has been stunning.

Speaking of National Title Game runner ups, San Diego St, last year's NCAA Title game runner ups ended a 10 year long streak, the longest in 27 years of home games without a double digit loss, beating the Zags by 10, first such loss since 2013.

Longest streak since Kansas in 1996-97.
