GW has many strong candidates for the A10 postseason awards
Included among them one of the most prolific scorers in program and conference history
The clear-cut best freshman in the conference
Several other freshmen who are candidates for the all rookie team.
Predictions for GW and for the conference as a whole generally?

I didn't realize that Bishop was #3 and Buchanan #5 in conference game scoring, so I'd like to think we have a pretty good shot of getting either named to the first team. But the team was terrible and that always influences voters. I'd settle for having one on the first team and the other on the second team.
Buchanan should definitely be freshman of the year.
Coach of the Year--Drew Valentine
Player of the Year--DaRon Holmes

In addition to being the very likely Rookie of The Year, does Darren Buchanan Jr make an all league team?
He is 5th in scoring. 3rd team perhaps?
Garrett Johnson all Rookie Team?
Anyone but DaRon Holmes for POY? He'd certainly get my vote, what a great player, what a career.
Runner-up would be?
Who do you see as the 5, First Team All A10 picks?

Wait just a minute. You mean there's actually another rookie in the A10 besides our own who can actually play? The Dude has been assuring us for months that DBJ will win the ROY award, and that Garrett would have joined him had his health cooperated. And while this is not official, 19 of 28 voters who follow the A10 almost as closely as The Dude does voted for Brown of St. Joe's? And JBIV, The Dude's pick for POY for much of this season, to the second team? I mean, does anyone check with The Dude before making their selections?
On a more serious note, it would be a great story if Garrett made the All-Rookie team, and perhaps he would deserve this over Jacoi after evaluating the full body of work. That said, it would be a shame for Jacoi to not make this team.

Gwmayhem, are you still paying attention to what the Dude says about basketball? He lost me a long time ago with "America's Greatest Coach" lol. Can't take anything he says about basketball seriously.

Thx for posting, as expected GW very well represented despite the record
Holmes and Mooney look like locks.
Would be surprised if DB Jr is not Rookie of The Year
Hopefully Stretch does make it!
1st of 2nd team will be interesting for James.

As expected? The Dude had likely never heard of Xzayvier Brown until about an hour ago.
Rising, I only pay attention to The Dude in that his hubris, completely unaffected by his apparent lack of knowledge, both entertains and fascinates me.

We are very lucky to have as many representatives as we did (granted these are not the official awards) given we are DFL in the A-10. Being the best player on the worst team does not mean much when there are other deserving players who helped their team actually WIN games.
Truth be told, Bishop is probably very close to being third team. JBIV is to GW what Ryan Daly was to St. Joe's in 2019-20. Daly got third team.
Someone like Gibson Jimerson is completely off the lists even though he has a better FG% and better 3P% than JBIV because SLU equally stinks.

Xzavier Brown is a really good rookie, but giving him the award over DBJ would be a truly bad decision. It would be purely based on SJU’s record. Brown is a really impressive shooter, but there are several other guys who take defensive attention from him, especially on the perimeter (especially Reynolds, but they also have Lynn Greer, and Cameron Brown who made 72 threes),
But Darren’s season is just amazing. He’s 8th in scoring - and in A10 games, his average is 18 ppg, which is surely top 3-5. And that’s with him getting hurt one game and then having his worst game when he tried to come back too early.
Hrs also 7th in rebounding. He’s 8th in FG% (2nd on ESPN but hard to qualify in their stats. Brown does have him with excellent 3 pt shooting and being 3rd in steals, but Buchanan is 11th in steals - but second among Fs.
And Darren does it despite being the focus of opposing game plans (along with James on the perimeter).
He may be hurt by missing a couple games so fans of those opposing teams whose games he missed or was hurt during didn’t vote for him in this A10 awards thing, but as nice a season as Brown has had, it really would be a shock to overlook such a dominant season from a freshman as Buchanan has had.

Agreed, hard to see a case for anyone other than DB Jr. Otherwise, looks as expected and on point.
Buchanan being pushed off the 3rd team All League because of our record, fine, but losing the Rookie of the Year, an award that often goes to a player on a rebuilding team would indeed be a bad decision. No knock on Brown who is really good as well.

Akingbola on all defensive team. Yes, he blocked shots, but he was deficient in every other aspect of the defensive game. Maybe I missed something.

Unfortunately voters often just look at block and steal totals, when the best defenders don’t necessarily get those stats, but rather lock down multiple positions (think Garino or Yuta, who did win the award I think).

The only thing I can imagine is that DBJ missing a few games cost him ROY (along with our record). . Hopefully, he wreaks destruction on LaSalle to show the league how they blew it.
Same for Garrett being left off. Guy won 4 Rookie of the Week awards, but missed games late in the year cost him I guess.

So DaRon Homes gets ripped off two seasons in a row. Last year, he loses out to Ace Baldwin. This season, he shares the award with Jordan King. With all due respect to King who had a great season, this award should have belonged to DaRon only. He is the best player in the conference hands down. He also was last season as well.
Third team for JB is disappointing but so was the team. Nevertheless, congrats to JB ,Jun and Stretch for their respective awards.
Baffled by how Brown won Rookie of the Year after The Dude REPEATEDLY stated how at first, Garrett and Jun, and then eventually just Jun, was a lock to win the award. Maybe The Dude has learned a lesson to stop posting again and again over things, especially things that he is more than capable of being wrong about (and almost always is). OK, do you think that lesson has been learned?

Well, All I can say is that the players snubbed should go out and prove in the A10 tourney that the selections were wrong. Maybe it will get some players to play better and smarter. Many years ago Xavier was belittled. All they did was win the A10 tourney. 2006?

Starting to wonder if The Dude might be the guy who writes the clownish announcements…you know, the “highest NET rating in GW history” nonsense.

Alum1, he's not, but he is the one to read things on gwsports.com and then post them here (including ridiculous statements like the one you cited). Because apparently, he's unaware that each and every one of us also has access to gwsports.com.

Bishop earns a postseason All-Conference honor for the third-straight season, becoming the first GW player to do so since Chris Monroe in 2001-2003. The third team honor mirrors his recognition in 2021-22, sandwiched around a first team selection last season.
The senior guard is third in the league in scoring at 18.3 ppg, his fourth-straight year finishing among the league's top three in points per game. He also averaged 4.4 assists per game to finish fourth in the A-10. He was the only player in the league to rank among the top five in both categories.
Akingbola is GW's first All-Defensive team honoree since Yuta Watanabe in 2018. The graduate center has been an imposing presence at the rim this year, leading the A-10 and ranking sixth nationally with 83 blocks. He is one shy of tying Yinka Dare's program record for blocks in a season (84) set in 1993-94.
Buchanan was one of the top players in the A-10 this season, let alone rookies as he finished eighth in the league with 15.7 ppg and seventh with 6.6 rpg.
