I am not going to qualify it. People will have differing opinions on whether it is good or bad and I promise there will be much discussion here about what is about to transpire.

This is all quite cryptic.
Is GW moving to the Ivy League? Is GW moving to the Big West? (Hey, if Cal and $tanford are going to the ACC, why not?). Is GW adding football and joining the SEC? Is the Smith Center to be razed and GW moving in to the downtown arena after the Caps and Bullets head to the suburbs? Is the Smith Center getting a retractable roof so baseball can play there now? Has the A10 finally figured out that GW should not host games on Jan 6 or Jan 20 due to other activities in DC those days? (That is probably the least likely of all)

It has nothing to do with any sport or conference affiliation. But it's blockbuster news at least for GW.

This is an outstanding personality test.  The fact that I am about 70% sure I will think of this as bad news, 15% sure it will be good news, and 15% neutral speaks volumes I am sure about my fandom.

My guesses:

All sports to the Vern.

$75mil NIL donation

GW serving as the US national team pre-Olympics training facility.

The First Ladies being renamed to The Colonielles

Finally!
Tanya leaves "for better opportunities" like her mentor Nero. The Smith Center redesign is going forward again after they realize the architects mistake. We get 2 late P-6 transfers. We rid our yearly schedule of all D-2 and D-3 teams.
Keep it rolling GW.

Small part of it, no real specifics given.

Full email to GW Athletics Advisory Council:
To our GW Advisory Council;

I hope this note finds you all doing well. We had an amazing Commencement Weekend here in Foggy Bottom after a busy end to the spring semester.

I want to share some personal news that will be more public later this afternoon when we will announce that I am going to leave GW later this summer.  I believe the release says something about me arriving on campus 32 years ago, so you can imagine that this was not an easy decision for me to make.

The greatest professional honor of my lifetime has been serving my alma mater for over 20 years as a coach and administrator. I have often said that what makes GW great is that it attracts the best humans from all over the globe who are drawn to our campus with the aspiration to change the world. I could not have asked for better people to work with throughout my tenure. I am so incredibly grateful for you. Your commitment to helping our students and coaches provides fuel for me, and honestly, it is this fuel which is launching me into my next chapter.

The macro issues straining college athletics need attention, and I found it increasingly more challenging to work on these macro issues from my chair. Later this summer, I will be joining the Pictor Group as a consultant. They are leaders in the industry tackling the most pressing micro and macro issues on our campuses. I look forward to joining this group of industry leaders who are working to find the right path forward for all of our current and future college athletes.

As for the future of GW Athletics, I have never been more certain of the leadership of our university. From our Trustees to our beloved new president to our colleagues across campus, we have alignment and strength. GW Athletics is positioned well to continue to be the most visible display of discipline and excellence for the university. I hope you remain encouraged and optimistic about supporting the university, our department and our coaches and student-athletes. Thank you so much for being so supportive of our great and important work. It has been a privilege of a lifetime to work with you.

Raise High the Buff & Blue!

With gratitude,
Tanya

Let's assume this is true and start by indicating that regardless of how you may feel about the job TV did over these past 6 years as Athletic Director, this is a sad day.  TV is a very nice person and of course, is a GW alum.  I don't believe there are very many out there who did not want to TV to succeed at the highest level, myself included.

That said, I do believe this change is warranted.  I say this based on several factors:

1) I was never entirely comfortable over the Nero to Vogel transition.  Nero behaved in about the most unprofessional and disrespectful way possible and should certainly be solely responsible for his own actions.  Nevertheless, what remained unspoken, serving at the time as Nero's top lieutenant, was what exactly did TV know about Nero's misdeeds, did she try to stop the behavior, and did she ever report the behavior?  A series of questionable inaction followed:  TV was promoted to AD, no other AD employees were fired (including one notable one who was allegedly in the know), and MoJo, the least qualified but "best camper" on ML's coaching staff, was elevated to head coach.

2. The performance of virtually all GW sports teams have regressed.  Am not at all dismissing the importance of graduating athletes but any AD will be measured at least in part by his or her teams' performances.

3. Selfishly, like some of you, the fate of the basketball teams, or specifically men's basketball, is of the utmost performance.  Lacking a football team, a school like GW will almost always benefit by having a "basketball person" overseeing its athletic department.  While I certainly had issues with Jack Kvancz towards the end of his career, his role on the NCAA basketball tournament committee along with decisions he would make with basketball largely in mind reflected well on GW basketball.

4.  Jamion Christian lost his job with two years remaining on his contract.  Speaking both morally and fiscally, this can never happen at a school our size.  No need to go into specifics.  Whether TV was in control of this situation or was powerless over it, neither option bodes well.

5.  The practice facility fiasco had to have been the final straw that forced TV to reassess her options.  Regardless of who may have been at fault,   it was TV's job to understand costs and feasibility before making the decision to upend the swim and diving team.  The result is that both basketball teams and the very successful swim and diving team come away disappointed with the swim/diving team facing a major rebuild with a new coach.

I'll also add that the circumstances behind TV's ascent to the AD position were about as unfortunate as it gets.  As it is said, you don't want to be the person who replaces the person, you want to instead be the person who replaces the person who replaced the person.  Completely unlike her predecessor, TV executed her duties with class and professionalism.  She was given a mess to clean up and often performed admirably towards this end.  However, as this post suggests, there were a few to many missteps or bumps in the road which became harder and harder to ignore as the on-field and on-court performances of GW's teams were mostly unable to reach a championship caliber level.  TV is a good person, and I wish her well at The Pictor Group.

Rising, you are correct. I'm thrilled for GW but also happy for CC.
Typical GW spin will be at work - "I'm leaving to consult with the Pictor Group". Nero left and started a consulting group - I don't think he's gotten a client in the last 7 years since he left!
I don't care what she will be doing. Just happy the GW Admin came to their senses and wanted a change.
Hopefully this is the beginning of a new era that will allow us to get out of the hole from the last 8 years.
