Hey everyone,
First things first I just want to give a virtual standing ovation to Barry. After the collapse of the last board, Barry took it upon himself to rebuild GWHoops into what we have here today. That took a lot of guts and shows how loyal you were and still are to GW.
This version of GWHoops was created in July 2019, only a few months after the hiring of Jamion Christian. In that time, we've seen the program hit hard by COVID, a game cancelled due to January 6th, changes to both the university and athletic department leadership, and the unfortunate indefinite delay of a dedicated practice facility for our basketball programs.
We've also seen some cool things too. We got to see Yuta turn into a bona fide NBA player with the Nets and Jonquel Jones help take the New York Liberty to the WNBA finals. We got to see GW beat down a South Carolina team featuring one of the top prospects in the country. Last season, we got to see Garrett Johnson take the floor for the first time after a lengthy battle with cancer and put up 21 points in the season opener.
The reason I point all that out is that I want this to be a place where we can talk about both the good and the bad. GWHoops can't be some North Korean-style forum where only positive news is posted. Part of the deal with being a fan is you get to voice your frustration with how we're doing game by game and whether or not GW is successfully navigating the ever changing landscape of college sports. On the other hand, GWHoops can't just be a place to write about how much a team/player/GW as a whole sucks. If GW athletics are only providing you fodder for trolling then it's probably best to find a new hobby for both your own sanity and the sanity of the others who post here.
At the end of the day, like 98% of you on here, I am an alum. I still have dreams of one day winning the lottery and funding our NIL collective so we can retain legacy kids like Kwame Evans Jr., Pat Ngongba II, and one-day soon Mike Hall's son MJ. We've built this community into a place that all should be able to enjoy and I want to preserve it for years to come. That means keeping comments focused on topics and content and not on the posters themselves.
If there's anything that you'd like to see to enhance the community feel please let me know. I can't promise it can be delivered (a "like" feature is not possible without a migration away from Boardhost), but I can promise I will listen.
