I have just come to learn that the GW English Department failed to teach the meaning of "hyperbole" in the late 1990s to the early 2000s. This accounts for phrases being used repeatedly here like ... "America's Greatest Coach", "A Rising Star in the Coaching Profession", "Every poster is the same person", etc. I could give many more examples.
So in an effort to remediate this grave injustice and set posters free from their overuse of hyperbole here, I will post a definition of hyperbole and some notes about the use of hyperbole ....
Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device. It is often used to evoke a response from the reader. When hyperbole is used excessively, it usually shows a writer's insecurity or immaturity.
