Two front-runners, and surprises always abound

Dont sleep on DBJr!

Atlantic 10 ConferenceRobbie AvilaSaint Louis BillikensThe viral star of 2023-24 who earned the nickname "Cream Abdul-Jabbar" as he led Indiana State to the NIT championship game, followed his head coach Josh Schertz to the Billikens in the offseason. He's looking to move up in his first year in the A10.Top competition: Max ShulgaVCU Rams (14.0 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 41.5% from 3 in 2023-24)

Dude, unless GW has a top 4 finish, it is almost impossible for Darren to win POY. I would like nothing more than to see him win it. But to say don't sleep on Darren is just plain foolishness at this point.

Oh joy, the holier than thou persona, see ya in the Blue Seats, Bo!!

Award is called Player of the Year, this isn't 1970s MLB MVP voting, no reason the best player in the league should not be in the running for POY, if in fact DBJr is among the best players in the league or THE best as he is capable of being

Mayhem is 100% correct and is not being holier than thou.

The last time the POY was given to a player not from a top 4 school was 2008-2009 when Ahmad Nivins won for St Joe's and they were 5th.

Realistically, DBJ will also not get 1st team honors, let alone POY, unless GW finishes in the top 5 or so teams.

GW0509, I would normally chuckle at this reference.  However, since it's being directed at the guy who freely poses under different names while accusing me and others of doing this very thing, I'm just not sure it should be encouraged even in jest.

And as you must know since you've got the keys to the car now, Rising and I are not the same person, I do not post under any other names, and I believe that Rising also does not post under any other name.

"Everyone is in the class of 1971"
"Mark Few is America's Greatest Coach"
"GW Rising = Bo"
"Gwmayhem posts under many names"

Just a very few of the Dude's "gems". You can only laugh!

Thanks for doing the research GW0509. I didn't have time but knew it was many years.

As good as James IV was, an all time great GW scorer, he and DBJr were somewhat an awkward fit on the court and yet WHAT A ROOKIE year for DBJR!  Eager to see him really explode in year 2 at GW

Got to the free throw line 16 times in win over UMES (12/30), scoring 14 points with eight rebounds ... Scored the most points by a freshman in the NCAA this season with 38 vs. Fordham (1/3) on 15-of-30 shooting, adding six rebounds and four steals ... Named A-10 Rookie of the Week (1/8) after averaging 23.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 3.0 spg in two games vs. Fordham and VCU ... Led the team with 21 points (9-13 FG) and nine rebounds vs. Mason (1/15) ...

Earned third

Tallied fourth A-10 Rookie of the Week (3/4) honor after averaging 21.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg in first two games back from injury vs. UMass and La Salle ... Dished out six assists to go along with 14 points, six rebounds, two steals and a block in the A-10 First Round vs. La Salle (3/12).
