I wish I could say I understand what we are doing. We pump 3’swithout hesitation by guys who can’t shoot. K State is very beatable but we look like we have spent too much time on the beach,

As I’ve opined in the past, one of Caputo’s biggest faults in my view is that he fails to switch game plans when it’s obvious things aren’t working. Last year I kind of gave him the benefit of the doubt because there were so many injuries it didn’t really matter, and there probably weren’t enough good horses to switch things up materially.

But tonight we are seeing more of the same run, immediate gun, miss and repeat. He continues with the same gameplan over and over in spite of the obvious ineffectiveness's of the shoot 3’s strategy. Oh well.  Gonna be a long season fellas.

Two fouls near the logo at midcourt and no one covering the back door to end the half is the hallmark of what kind of team? (Hint: "good" and/or "playing with discipline" are NOT the correct answer)

--Note: K St´s coach credited the "scouting report" for why they were able to shut down GW in the 1st half. Just sayin´...

Not sure that half could have gone any worse. A team that can't shoot 3s taking 50% of their shots from there. Getting outrebounded by 14. They are who we thought they were (minus Garrett)

Sorry, but I see no improvement in this team over the JC or MoJo iterations…

Doesn’t take a genius scouting report to cut off Buchanan and date us to take threes.

Just a brutal performance. The only guy who showed up to play is Jacoi and I kinda think we should sit him for the rest of the game so he's healthy for the next two games

Excellent effort this half.  Really playing with aggression, not being intimidated.  Though also teams always look better when shots go in, so that helps n

And excellent minutes from Jones with Jacoi on the bench.

Nice to see some fight in the team. Not backing down or giving up. Criticisms in the 1st half were well deserved but some praise is definitely in order for this half.

I'd like to see Jones start over Moss moving forward. Also curious to see what a lineup of Jacoi-Jones-DBJ-Hansen-Castro would look like and if they'd actually get Hansen more looks from 3 in that set-up.

Pretty enjoyable 2nd half.  Great effort and aggression to come back.  Hutch going out with the cramps or injury killed off any chance to sustain the comeback (though great initial push led by Jones), and we ran out of gas.

Hutch was fantastic before he went out, and Jones was really solid. Castro showed he’s a legit player at this level.

Drungoole and Moss were about what we expect at this point (a few good plays here and there, but ultimately not good enough for this level).

DBJ had a bad game. Just couldn’t find his rhythm against their size. Not coming close on threes really holds him back.

Hansen does some good things, but he’s just too slow to guard K St level bigs or rebound against them. Zero rebounds in 24 minutes is really a problem for a backup center/stretch 4.

Not sure why Autry played so little, but he was ineffective so maybe that’s why.

All in all, we cut it to 5 in the second half with only 3 guys having really good games.

Also good - only 10 turnovers. And 8 threes (32% isn’t good, but for us it is 😂).  And pretty decent defense

Also bad - 10 missed FTs.  Didn’t cost us the game, but probably cost some bettors the cover. And got smoked on the boards, but most of that was the first half or garbage time when we got tired.

Just back from the game.   It took us half a game before we had the confidence to realize we could play with K-State.   Unfortunately, we do have personnel issues, some of which will resolve itself as players gain experience and some may be recruiting misses.    As with last season, if GW wants to stay in games with the likes of K-State, playing such a horrible schedule does not help them do so.   First the good...Hutchinson is a pleyer.  He plays with confidence and now has his 3 point shot up to around 33% after a very slow start.   He was definitely hurting that second half,   Trainers were working on what I believe was his right calf.  Hope it was cramping and not a muscle pull.    Castros numbers were down, but he demonstrated he can play with bigger and stronger players than what he has faced so far.  He is also a very hard worker.   Christian Jones is a player who I think is going to get better and better as his confidence grows.   Sadly, that was it for the good.   As for the bad, Buchanan simply had an off game.   He made bad decisions all night and appeared physically frustrated.   Unlike Castro, Buchanan did not rise to the occasion against better competition.   Also, although outside shooting was never a strength of his, I don't remember it being this bad last season.  Trey Moss so far has brought very little to the table, and I question whether he can play against a higher level of competition.   Same with Drumgoole, who I think brings more to the table than Moss but hardly a game changer.   Bevins needs to be eased into the game...not sure he is ready to help these first couple of months.  Not sure why coach left him in as long as he did.     Autry was deadly from the three point line in warmups, then proceeded to shoot 0-4 for the game.    He was visibly upset every time he was pulled from the game and was clearly frustrated.   He could use a few ccs of confidence on the Court.   I agree with Free, however that he should have played more.   If  we were going to claw our way back into the game, especially after they opened it back up over 10 after we made our second half run, then it would have had to been on the back of our 3 point shooting, and Autry has one of the better shots on the team.   As for Hansen, he was in the game too long to have zero rebounds and he is too slow and not nearly strong enough to compete against a team with a bigger and faster front court and did not defend particularly well   His game may play against the Browns or Colgates of the world, but not against K State and A-10 teams.  Did the announcers say anything about Nessah?  I am not sure I even saw him in the arena.  Still, in the end, I think this loss may have made us a better team than the win against NJIT,  Tomorrow we face Louisiana, who was no match very good and very deep Liberty, who would be my pick to win the tournament.  Louisiana is smaller than we are but probably quicker.   They can be preasured into making bad decisions.   If we get past Louisiana, we are then likely looking at UAB or possibly McNeese.    There was a nice GW contingent at the game.
