Some of you are way too harsh. George Mason played basically a perfect game - played as well as they could (including a career game from Billups). We matched that in the first half with some unbelievable play and shooting the lights out, but we couldn’t sustain that level coming out of the half.
I’ll also say that watching Dayton-St Joe’s up close, it was noticeable how much more physical and aggressive Mason’s defense was than those teams (or ours).
As for the criticism of Caputo here, I strongly disagree. He’s the right coach for us. He got our team to exceed our talent level with some outstanding schemes, and he pulled us out of the sub-200 hell of college hoops. We were a much better team this year - improving over 100 spots on KenPom. I think Caputo is figuring out what kind of players he needs (and can land at GW), and I don’t see any reason we won’t keep improving. Especially if we can get a little better guard play next year and more shooting around Castro.
Anyway, it was disappointing to get manhandled by a more physical team in 2h yesterday, but I walk away from this season thinking it was a success and that we are on our way back.
