Arnaldo posted on Insta that’s he’s been cleared with no limitations. Great news and looking forward to seeing him in top form.

Rumors were that the team knew he’d need season ending surgery last year, but since it was unlikely to do any more harm, he played the maximum number of games before they sat him so he could keep his year of eligibility. I did notice that he didn’t really get off the floor while he was playing those games and I think the reduced mobility showed in his offensive efficiency statistics (e.g., KenPom: 106.1 to 98.7 from 2018 to ‘19). If he manages to improve on the double double that he was almost averaging last year by adding five or so PPG, he could become an all-A10 level beast.

Great to hear. I think him starting gives us a solid inside presence and Javi can provide really solid minutes spelling him.

Good news! I was wondering whether he would be able to redshirt last year, but it appears that he opted not to (his class year doesn't say "redshirt junior" but just "senior") unless he is somehow given a year as a graduate student or something right? Don't know too much about how that stuff works. I think the rule is appearing in fewer than 25% of the games before injury.

I wouldn't be surprised if AT upped his scoring total to at least 12-13 ppg. He has improved his scoring each year by around 2-3 ppg so this is somewhat extrapolating, but maybe it will be even more if he is able to develop a consistent jumper in JC's offense. I think he will thrive as the roll man in the offense, but I wonder if his rebounding totals will be hurt by JC's style of play (historically he has not really had his team go all out to crash the glass, especially on the defensive end). AT may be the exception, especially since his strength is rebounding on the offensive end. JC also said he would like to play through the post, but I'd expect the offensive attack to be very much still perimeter focused.

It's possible that Toro is a senior, but still has two years of eligibility. If that's the case and he has a great year, I can imagine some schools recruiting him for the graduate year. New season can't come soon enough.

Anyone hear anything about Arnaldo?
Saying it would be good to have him back, would be the understatement of the year. And just feel bad for him.
The disturbing thing was the announcer said it was a hip injury today. Hoping this is the same type of statement that
came from announcer like Javier being from Rockville,
But if somehow correct....

guys, what's up?
can someone explain to me why Arnaldo labeled as a senior on the official site?
i also check some old news and found nothing about redshirting last year
if he will want to play one more year, he can still apply for a waiver at the end of the season, right?
or it's truly his last year in college?

According to this article, Arnaldo got a medical redshirt waiver for sitting out last year and is technically a redshirt junior. Whether he wants to use that extra year I do not know.

I assume the senior classification doesn't mean too much. Assuming he graduates this year, he will have the chance to stay on or go elsewhere as a grad student for one more year.

GW forward Arnaldo Toro is leaving and will be a grad transfer, source told @Stadium. Averaged 6.5 points and 7.0 boards per game this season.

We now have 1 open scholarship for a transfer or 2020 recruit.

Perhaps it was four years of inability to finish around the rim, and 24in of range.

Jamion Christian like a dozen GW coaches before him better understands the way to deploy the talent available to him than do the fans.

Good luck to Arnaldo Toro. A nice guy a hard worker who has represented GW well on and off the court. His girlfriend a former GW dancer, is now a GW law student and a wizards dancer so expect to see Arnaldo around the campus perhaps even transferring locally

American University would be a good fit, somewhere where he can play and get good minutes he certainly has an international career ahead of him

Sorry to see Toro go. He had such a great start to the year, including a 24 rebound game. I don’t see him going to a school like American. He’s far too good of a player with a needed skill set (rebounding) to take such a large step backward. I can see him going to a good midmajor or lower level Major program as solid role player.

Good luck to AT, a year of grad school can't hurt him. I don't see him having success in pro ball. I think his missing so many give mes is a result of his injuries. Maybe he can heal enough to be successful at a higher level, but maybe not.

Disappointing to see another great player leave the team. If AT hadn't been injured I think he would have had a chance to make a real difference for the Colonials. Next year, with time to heal and get totally healthy, I think AT would preform like the high-end the big man we all know he can be. But I guess it's his time to blaze a new path. Wishing AT nothing but the best.

One thing that gets easily overlooked is that AT was supposed to have spent his GW career alongside Colin Smith and Kevin Marfo. With both of these players having departed after one season, AT was forced to be used as an often undersized center. It would have been interesting to see how his game would have evolved playing as a power forward, as well as of course playing healthy.

While he won't come anywhere close to being amongst the most talented GW Colonials of all time, he will be on a very short list of the school's most tenacious rebounders. He had an incredible knack for understanding angles and positioning. He almost always seemed to know where to be on a missed shot.

But above all else, AT should be profusely thanked for sticking it out. He could have left at any point in time much like most everyone recruited his year or a year ahead of him. He chose GW and he chose to stay at GW through an obvious period of tumult. Above all else, I'll always remember this about AT. He could easily have left when times were terrible, but didn't.

Exactly. Don't know why someone who is on his way out, as opposed to current players who we have every right to respectfully comment on their pluses and minuses, would be belittled by a post here. Arnaldo gave his all. Playing hurt last season, literally playing as many games as he could before getting an operation. And at times, hurt this season. Then hugely and bizarrely underused this year. And still he won some games for us, especially one coming in only at the second overtime.
All the while dealing with a huge natural disaster that affected his home.
The type of player who was on the Athletic Leadership council.
Transferwise, Arnaldo may choose to go lower based on his trauma at GW. But we may be surprised (actually not when you think about it) at the level he could end up, if he chooses to. He's one of the better rebounders in the country and has a GW record to show for it.
Thanks for everything he's done. He'll always be a valued Colonial basketball and academic graduate. Best to Arnaldo and the Toro family in the future.

Guess the Johnnies are taking a gamble that he’ll be healthy and focused for next year. If the hip heals, maybe a change of scenery is what he needed.

Btw, that means the 4 Final Lonergan recruits still playing are now at St John’s, UCF, South Carolina, and Texas A&M. Guess it really was a strong class, just not for us.
