It's fair to say last season's OOC was very weak but I think if you say that you also have to praise this year's OOC. It's about as good as you are going to do at GW unless you want to have very few home games. We simply can't get Quad 1 teams in Smith Center (and very hard to get Quad 2) which means you have to expect a diet of Quad 3 and 4 home games. So if you don't like those, you are forced to go on the road. CC did a great job of getting Quad 1/2 games at neutral sites.

I'll take quad 3 and 4 over D2 any day.  So far so good with the schedule, just hope to see it finished off the right way

AU's home game vs Drexel (last year's Kenpom 183) is the kind of seemingly reasonable game I'd like to see at the Smith Center.

There should be some good news coming shortly about a matchup on a neutral court in 2025-26 against a very prominent SEC team. Stay tuned!

Been checking back in for this since you posted it, Rising.  Is this still on, or did it fall through?

I honestly don't think it would be a bad thing for the big money football programs to leave D1, even if they took their basketball programs with them. It might help stabilize what is left of D1, and GW and the A10 would increase their standing in it. There would be less eyeballs on the NCAA Tourney (presumably the schools that leave would create their own tournament), but I would actually be more interested because it would be a more level playing field and GW and other A10 schools would be much more likely to be in it. The P4 teams already won't play us, we have no chance against them in recruiting due to NIL and current NCAA selection criteria, and GW hasn't made the NCAA Tourney in over a decade, so what really is the drawback? Dashing the hope that we might one day win the A10 Tourney and get blown out in the first or second round of the NCAA Tourney by a semi-professional "college" team?

One drawback would be the end of Cinderella in the tournament - GW or whichever A10 team being toppled by Saint Peters or FGCU or FDU or whoever doesn't quite get the juices flowing the same

Seemed like this deserved its own thread.  So we know about the Cayman Islands Tournament, though not who else is in it yet.  I saw Rocco Miller on Twitter say GW is hosting William and Mary on 12/6, and I believe we have return home games against AU and ODU, and a return road game at Army.  Am I missing anything else we know about?

Thanks!  I forgot about Nora, but the others are all news to me.  Appreciate the info!

RIP to Mike.  I remember learning he was a GW alum while I was at GW and thinking that was pretty cool.  Maybe this is better suited for a different thread, but with his passing what GW alums are active in sports media?  The Charlotte Hornets radio announcer is Sam Farber, and of course there is Clay Travis... is there anyone else?

Anyone else concerned at how slow things have been moving?  We sure could use some players...

Think you will see a lot more of this unless the system changes. Why invest in big-time athletics if you have no shot to be successful? I am making a prediction that perhaps 100+ current D-1 schools will drop by 2030-2035. That's 1,500 basketball scholarships for each of men and women not  to mention the other sports. Also, don't get caught up in thinking it can't happen here. The next 4-5 years will dictate.

As it is designed to. Much with football being made in to a 40-team, two league competition, the same consolidation is going to happen in college hoops. Operating costs are much lower for basketball, which is one of its charms with the public at-large, so the cull will not be as severe. But the TV and gambling powers want concentration of attention, and 300+ DI schools including a bunch of schools so obscure that even a dedicated fan has to look up their nicknames and hometowns does not concentrate eyeballs/wagering action.
Can GW stay in it? Well, if the finances are good then "yes". When/if it gets to the question of does an academic-focused University want to fund a money-losing pro team that generates little interest, then the answer might be different.

or you follow the Johns Hopkins model. Division I in Men & Women's BBall. Div II or III in everything else.

I looked this up because I had never heard of this type of arrangement for basketball and it appears that they are D-3 for everything except lacrosse.

Let me get this straight - Xavier loses Sean Miller again (to Texas), so they're apparently going to replace him with Chris Mack, again??? Time is a flat circle in Cincy

GW Basketball Insiders instant reaction to the game tonight with a bit of a look towards the offseason: https://www.youtube.com/live/6b8OSi6cv30?si=QPWmVmsRxfislMEU

Maddening to lose in that fashion to your rival (or closest thing to it) for the third time this year in front of a nice Friday night crowd. Definitely things to build on for next year but I can't dispute many of the frustrations people have expressed on here tonight. I think a lot of how we think about this year will be informed by how much the core is retained.

As for GW Basketball Insiders, let us know what sort of content you'd like to see this offseason and any thoughts you have on the show. This board is basically the audience for the show so we'd love the feedback. I'm hoping to move to get the show onto Spotify/Apple Podcasts this spring

Moving to Apple would be great.  Would love some player interviews, but also the same stuff we look for here - recruiting/transfer info, scheduling tidbits, etc.  There is such a dearth of info around this program that generates a real thirst for whatever we can get from from the fanbase.

No matter how this ends, is anyone here feeling optimistic about A10 play after tonight?

Nope.  The broadcast indicated Caputo was yelling to foul, but how was that not clearly explained during the timeout?  The coaching, awful FT shooting, and non-existent 3 point shooting make getting more than a couple of home wins in A10 play feel like a pipe dream.
