I think he fits really nicely. Was Duq’s highest usage AND most efficient player, which is something you don’t always see.
I love that! This feels like a really important to get for us. Outstanding shooter, tons of experience at the college level, knows our league and our opponents.
Not sure how to handle the fact that we now have three guys named Trey/Tre.
In any case, this feels like really great news.

I'm glad to see they're doing this tournament. We have six A-10 teams in the NIT, and while it's clearly not the big dance, I feel like this is good for the team and our program.

If you listened to the 3-Bid League podcast, I would say their serious love of URI might have been heard by Fordham.
Serious motivation, perhaps?

I believe the tiebreaker is head-to-head if there are only two tied teams. If there are three, it is based upon record by those three teams versus each other, and then the lowest ranked team is dropped and given the worst seed, and then the heads-up tiebreak is performed for the final two teams. If there is still a tie, the tied teams' records versus the #1 seed are then used, then the #2 seed, etc...
If I read it correctly, we win the heads up tiebreaker vs. St. Bonaventure, lose the heads up to Duquesne, and come in 2nd of the three teams in the three-way tiebreaker.

Not taking a side on this, because I don’t know enough about other players in the league. But, my recollection from 20 or 30 years ago was that the All conference first team was simply the five players who received the most votes, and not necessarily the five players who led their positionsim votes.
Is anybody in the know about the process?
Watching today’s game, it sure seems like he belongs on the first team, even if it means there are two center/ forward bigs on the team.

Yes, I am. I don't know how many sets of shin splint disorders we created with that as a running track, but I always felt the medical profession owed us Smith Center staff a referral fee.

If anyone is interested in my two seats for the game, please let me know. Can’t make it and happy to donate them to friendly message board members.
DM me if interested.
(seats are in the single row overhang in the west end zone, just below the track)

Even if he doesn't help make the difference he did today, including good passing, we want to keep him happy at GW.
I absolutely agree. I actually thought our best lineup today was when he and Castro were in with three guards.

Have you seen what the Sun Belt is doing?
This is crazy but might be brilliant marketing and give the conference a better chance at getting an upset win in the NCAA.

I don't know for sure, but a friend told me they heard or saw on the broadcast that Jun appeared to be taunting (in the eyes of the ref), but that it likely was just his enthusiasm that made it appear that way.

Great news! I have no idea if these guys are going to be great or not, but I really like seeing us sign players this time of year.. I'd like to think it means we're getting players we want (and who want us), and not players we're settling for (or who are settling for GW).

Mayhem (and all), hello. Last season I considered doing some online marketing to attract fans to the site. It started as an idea when I was sitting at a game and there were two GW fans, Dads with their young children. These kids were shouting out the funniest and loudest cheers and insults (about the other team), and I was loving it. I asked the two men if they were on the GW Hoops board, looking for a connection of sorts. Instead, I got a response that they didn't know anything about this site.
They were interested and I showed them the site on my phone. I can't say if they joined us or not after that.
My point is that we have a brand problem (not the team, well them, too, but this site).
I also considered that the George's Army was represented on here with only a few students, from what I could tell. Is it that the students don't know about us, don't care about a bunch of "old guys" talking about hoops, or have they been here and find us offensive? I honestly don't know, but I could see any of those being issues.
We also are not endorsed in any way by GW Athletics. I'm guessing members of the staff are lurkers, but I also imagine that there is likely some kind of edict that Athletic Department staff are not allowed to post. And yet, from a PR standpoint, I believe our site can be useful to GW's promotion of the program.
And then there is the antagonism of the board. My greater purpose in trying to keep things civil was that I felt (feel) that when there is no other voice talking about GW Hoops, we become the ONLY voice out there. That can be powerful, and I still believe this to be true.
For me, I continue to encourage folks to join the conversation on here, I talk positively about GW basketball whenever I can, and I have season tickets for myself, +1. It's rare I attend alone, simply because I try to invite GW connections who aren't actively following the team. I discovered a couple of days ago that one of my board members at my

Just because the author is admittedly, super biased, it doesn’t make his point any less intriguing to consider.
Of course, the flip-side that he doesn’t discuss is that the framework in which mid-majors exist could be significantly different by the time we get to 2026.

CC and his Staff I 100% believe will be a success, if they are not the program and life goes on, worst case the next man will get his crack, the best case CC and Squad turn this thing all the way around, and he stays a long time or we lose him and the next guy inherits a turned around program
Mojo inherited a Chernoybl mess, Penders inherited the best decade in the history of the program, GW Basketball is a lot bigger than 1-2 years. The potential for sustained success is there, but its very difficult and if you want sustained success and first, a full turnaround, donate $ to the NIL and buy season tickets
Sky is falling paranoia doesn't help one bit but I guess its predictably slightly amusing?
Dude, for the first time in a while, I mostly agree with your take on the program. I have no delusions that we will be elite, but I also do not see us leaving the Atlantic 10. I don’t see us dropping down, as some here have said. And I do believe that we can achieve sustained success as a program, at least as a top of the A10 level. Not that we will…but I’m open to the possibility that the new direction of the athletic department and university may make a difference.
Where you have lost me, though, as you have many times in the past, is in your assumption that us giving NIL money is going to do anything in the grand scheme of things to fix a very broken system.
We are lacking several things that will cause us to stay where we are and never move into the elite level, regardless of any NIL money we give. It is a veritable, arms, race, and best any growth and resources we have are going to be matched by the more funded programs.
We lack a football team, which means there’s no revenue coming in to support the rest of, or in our case, all of the other teams. Everyone in
GW Men's Hoops » An Open Letter to GW0509 » 9/01/2024 12:54 pm |
0509 (shorthand, since I feel like we’re friends now), I’d like to truly thank you for stepping in to lead this site. As you know, I think having a forum for GW fans to congregate, communicate, celebrate, and occasionally cry together is incredibly important for how we engage with the University and how they engage with us.
Yet, I fear that I have caused you to live up to my way of doing things. When we had our Zoom discussion, I tried to emphasize that you needed to make the decisions that are best for you.
My greatest mistake was being open about who I am? I felt it was important for me, but that decision impacted other decisions I needed to make out of fear of personal attacks outside the forum, which did occur with someone I ultimately banned.
I can’t say how I would have ruled on issues of banning, suspending, or deleting/editing threads had I been anonymous, but I’m guessing it would have been easier to put my virtual foot down.
Why am I writing now, and why publicly? Simply put, I want everyone to know that I wholeheartedly endorse you in anything you decide. I know you’re facing pressure to ban someone on the board. If you decide to do so, or decide not to, I support you fully.
But whatever you decide now and in the future, because there are those on the board who will feel they are winning or losing the argument, I hope that you decide with purpose, that you make a point of doing so one way or the other with the intent of stopping or severely limiting the animosity, vitriol, and personal conflicts. I tried to do so and failed. I hope you can improve on the board that I left you.
Thanks in advance everything you are doing, now and in the future, and #RaiseHigh.

Have the Athletic Department actually released the Season Ticket prices for the year yet? I can't find them anywhere. It seems a little ridiculous to ask people to put down a deposit when I don't know how much tickets are going to be, especially when you are in a situation like me where I plan on upgrading my tickets.
I am also upgrading this year, and I’ve already spoken to the ticket manager, James Meyer. He has indicated to me that the final pricing can’t be set until they know how many home games they’re going to have (which I suppose they’re finalizing still). However, the per game price for season tickets For each ticket type can be found at the attached link.
I hope this answers your concerns.

I am pleased to announce that moving forward we have a new admin for the GW Hoops board. Please join me in thanking and welcoming GW0509 as our new admin!
You may think that this is an easy job, but in reality, it is much more than making sure the conversation stays civil. I believe that GW Hoops is a vital part of the ecosystem for GW Basketball and GW Athletics. While there is no oversight by the university, if this site does what it should do, we are the thing that keeps our most fanatical of fans engaged. We create a collective intelligence for our board community that helps each of us stay connected to GW (in some cases, this is our only real connection to GW).
With that, I am confident in GW0509's commitment to making the GW Hoops board a continued success. I cannot stress enough that if you are someone who doesn't share the ideal that we are successful, or that you want to be a detriment to the board, 0509 (already shortening his handle) will have the same decision-making responsibility I did, and his decisions may or may not be consistent with how I handled things.
One last thing...some of you have been very open in personal messages to me as to your real life identities (others have not). Please note that 0509 has access to your email addresses that you've used to register on this site but won't have access to my personal messages. Feel free to (or not to) contact 0509 directly if you wish to do so.
Thanks everyone, and especially thanks to GW0509!
