I am pleased to announce that moving forward we have a new admin for the GW Hoops board. Please join me in thanking and welcoming GW0509 as our new admin!
You may think that this is an easy job, but in reality, it is much more than making sure the conversation stays civil. I believe that GW Hoops is a vital part of the ecosystem for GW Basketball and GW Athletics. While there is no oversight by the university, if this site does what it should do, we are the thing that keeps our most fanatical of fans engaged. We create a collective intelligence for our board community that helps each of us stay connected to GW (in some cases, this is our only real connection to GW).
With that, I am confident in GW0509's commitment to making the GW Hoops board a continued success. I cannot stress enough that if you are someone who doesn't share the ideal that we are successful, or that you want to be a detriment to the board, 0509 (already shortening his handle) will have the same decision-making responsibility I did, and his decisions may or may not be consistent with how I handled things.
One last thing...some of you have been very open in personal messages to me as to your real life identities (others have not). Please note that 0509 has access to your email addresses that you've used to register on this site but won't have access to my personal messages. Feel free to (or not to) contact 0509 directly if you wish to do so.
Thanks everyone, and especially thanks to GW0509!

Let´s all give three cheers to BGF, the epitome of a guy you don´t have to worry about because he knows where it´s at!
Now the onus is on all of us to make GW0509´s tenure as easy as possible-- no assinine bickering, no hijaking of threads to push a personal agenda, and no love for the Evit Twits at That School Down the Street. (I assume the last one will be easy for all here to follow, not so sure about the first two but hope springs eternal...).
Just over 110 years since Gravilo Princip gained global fame (or infamy), GW hoops now has its 4th message board admin-- Mario, Herve, BGF and now GW0509..

Hey, what did I say about hijacking threads?!? And over a typo? (My great-grandfather sired three children while a sergeant in the Austo-Hungarian Army in WWI; apparently he just paid bribes to get out of serving. As my grandmother-- one of three children born while dad was "away at the war"-- used to say: No wonder they lost the War)
Now back to our regularly-scheduled expressions of gratitude to BGF.

Hey everyone,
First things first I just want to give a virtual standing ovation to Barry. After the collapse of the last board, Barry took it upon himself to rebuild GWHoops into what we have here today. That took a lot of guts and shows how loyal you were and still are to GW.
This version of GWHoops was created in July 2019, only a few months after the hiring of Jamion Christian. In that time, we've seen the program hit hard by COVID, a game cancelled due to January 6th, changes to both the university and athletic department leadership, and the unfortunate indefinite delay of a dedicated practice facility for our basketball programs.
We've also seen some cool things too. We got to see Yuta turn into a bona fide NBA player with the Nets and Jonquel Jones help take the New York Liberty to the WNBA finals. We got to see GW beat down a South Carolina team featuring one of the top prospects in the country. Last season, we got to see Garrett Johnson take the floor for the first time after a lengthy battle with cancer and put up 21 points in the season opener.
The reason I point all that out is that I want this to be a place where we can talk about both the good and the bad. GWHoops can't be some North Korean-style forum where only positive news is posted. Part of the deal with being a fan is you get to voice your frustration with how we're doing game by game and whether or not GW is successfully navigating the ever changing landscape of college sports. On the other hand, GWHoops can't just be a place to write about how much a team/player/GW as a whole sucks. If GW athletics are only providing you fodder for trolling then it's probably best to find a new hobby for both your own sanity and the sanity of the others who post here.
At the end of the day, like 98% of you on here, I am an alum. I still have dreams of one day winning the lottery and funding our NIL collective so we can retain legacy kids like Kwame Evans Jr., Pat Ngongba II, and one-day soon Mike Hall's son MJ. We've built this community into a place that all should be able to enjoy and I want to preserve it for years to come. That means keeping comments focused on topics and content and not on the posters themselves.
If there's anything that you'd like to see to enhance the community feel please let me know. I can't promise it can be delivered (a "like" feature is not possible without a migration away from Boardhost), but I can promise I will listen.

It goes without saying, but still should be said: thanks for Barry for giving us a forum to exercise our
passion.
And thanks to GW0509 for taking on this job.
His statement above is really reasonable and well-expressed, allowing for non-North Korean-like dissent
with a program which has, at times, tried our patience in recent years. But also embracing the positives from Yuta's development to Garrett's inspiring play--just last year.
Thanks again to GW0509 for this thoughtful new management post.

Just back from a much needed vacation and catching up on all things GW. Good to see GW0509 taking the reins. Also, many thanks to BGF for all of his hard work over the years in developing and maintaining this board. Some of us are not easy participants.

BGF, thank you for all your work transitioning the old board to your new board and also for all the work you did to try to keep the discussion civil and productive. Also, good luck with the job move, which I hope goes smoothly and successfully.
0509, thank you for taking on the effort to keep this board going and providing a place for people to come to enjoy GW basketball and for reading and learning what's new with the program.
