I would include Yuta here. If my memory serves me correctly he was a bit of an afterthought of what seemed like talented recruiting class coming in (Paul Jorgensen, Matt Cimino, Anthony Swan were all more highly touted). But it was clear even just after the exhibition game of his freshman year that he was the best of the bunch. And I wouldn't have expected him to go on to be DPOY and stick in the NBA for several years in part because of his defense.

Correct, shameful that the right has sold its soul to an anti-American insurrectionist denying people the due process guaranteed by the constitution.

Mike K, we can find fault with the Biden Administration's handling of antisemitism while at the same time, condemn the current administration's blatant overreach.  Even if Trump's agenda was nothing more than fighting back against antisemitism, and I am far from convinced that this is the case, the actions he is taking or threatening to take are egregious to say the least.  I am Jewish and of course I abhor antisemitism.  That said, the price of millions of Americans losing their jobs, or of a substantial amount of vital medical research coming to a halt, just isn't worth this fight to me.   I would urge you to read Mara Riegel's excellent April 21 column in the GW Hatchet entitled "Perspective:  Trump Exploits Antisemitism To Repress Student Speech."  I suspect many Jews, like Mara and myself, are opposed to being help up like pawns to advance this fight.  Especially from the guy who was sure there were fine people on both sides in Charlottesville.

GWRising, your reaction says to me that that you equate "free speech" with "any or all speech", and this simply isn't true.  Hate speech must be differentiated from free speech.  Verbal and physical harassment must be differentiated from free speech.  Breaking laws must be differentiated from free speech.  One can not walk into a crowded movie theatre and scream "fire" where there is none.  That's breaking the law, not free speech.

Not always a fan of your basketball takes on here, but +1 to this.

Usually I'd take just being down 6 against a top 50 team at the half, but that didn't feel like a good half, aside from the defense for the first 5 minutes.

A quick Q & A:

Why are we arguing about Mark Few?  Two reasons.  First, The Dude continues to troll the board by bringing his name up at every conceivable opportunity. He knows it annoys some and bores others, and he's fine with each of these outcomes.  He also uses this reference to contrast how disappointing he finds GW basketball to be.  Second, because The Dude continues to force the argument that Few is America's Greatest Coach, an easily disputed moniker when considering that he has never won a national championship.

Do none of us agree with DC Native?  This is not the case if we are talking about Few's accomplishments.  Most if not all of us admire the amazing job he has done at what started out being a low to mid-major and elevating Gonzaga's status to a national power.  Any resistance comes from two assertions: a) that it is questionable at the least to refer to him as America's Greatest Coach one time, let alone hundreds of times, and b) that GW or any other mid-major should not be harshly criticized for not achieving what Gonzaga has been able to achieve.  This is utter nonsense.

Why does The Dude hate Shaka Smart?  Because The Dude believes he committed career suicide by leaving VCU to accept the head coaching job at Texas.  Let's ignore the facts that he left to coach in a more competitive conference where he more than doubled his income.  Or that he was immediately hired by Marquette after Texas made it clear that it was looking to make a change without actually having fired him.  Or that he is now coaching in his home state where his contract has already been extended through the 2029-2030 season with his income about 10% less than the maximum he had earned at Texas. (still north of $3 million per season, compared to a maximum of under $1.6 million at VCU).

Why does The Dude hate Tom Crean?  That's an oldie.  I guess because he underachieved at Indiana and Georgia after overachieving with Dwayne Wade at Marquette

He was a freshman in '20-'21 so he has an extra covid year and then sat out '21-'22 under the olden days transfer rules. Good for him, getting a GW degree, and now hopefully getting another free year somewhere to get a master's.

Do what it takes to keep Castro, Jones and Autry. Castro and Jones have first team potential and Autry's improvement this year was fantastic. I liked Nassah and Blevins, Blevins especially on the defensive end. I assume Blevins will be back. Wondering about Nassah since he really didn't get much play when compared to what appears to be a high ceiling. Those 5 and the return of Johnson is a nice core group. Caputo should have 3 to 4 scholarship to work with in the portal. No. 1 assignment should be a rugged power forward to go up against A-10 level competition. There are a few low major hidden gems that will likely hit the portal this summer that could fit that bill. Excited for next year.

Well they got punched in the face, then punched again, kept getting punched, and had no response. Generous interpretation is a little fatigue after last night and GMU fresh after the double bye. Credit where it's due to GMU, that was a heck of a second half.
