Have my own independent info.
But here's what GWRising said about Lonergan's situation that: "that many, if not most, of the allegations were exaggerated or non-existent."
A very smart, Ivy-educated player in that era literally sent his brother to play for the team under what would have been ML the next year.

This is a very interesting debate, especially given where we are--and this blowing up the program
over wrong accusations, and a hush money cover-up of what really happened. It's quite a window into human behavior and frankly, GW and other colleges trying to be on the correct bandwagon at the expense of dealing with wrongful things that could have put the university in a terrible liability position if widely known.
And also because Patsos, who was fired for similar allegations and is literally Lonergan's best friend, is our color man and co-host of our TV show. That is great GW hypocrisy.
ML has earned his bitterness. After turning down triple his salary and a higher level job(s), his career
was cut down in its prime with radioactive allegations that made him essentially unemployable.
Meanwhile, GW paid him around $3 million, seemingly to avoid any public disclosure of the bizarre situation. I am quite confident of that figure of around $3 million.
Personally, I don't see a grey area. I see right and wrong--and a man with a family losing his livelihood
to a one-sided (and demonstrably wrong in numerous areas) story. In fact, recall there may be more which
hasn't been reported.
This is important to talk about, from a moral and basketball standpoint.
The bad karma still haunts us. There probably won't be a formal apology (above the $3 million reasons) to ML, though there should.
But we need to do something to erase the stink of this and unfairly making
a university employee a pariah.
Side note: Except for one case where inflammatory accusations that are very harmful to say about someone, everyone is largely handling this in a mature and respectful.
Appreciate that and hope it continues.

Sure, other A-10 teams played and have sometimes upset these major D1 teams.
But do they face the likes of UVA (-Wise)?

This is very well said.
For those that think it's irrelevant and ancient history, skip over it.
However, one might want to look at the famous quote about the dangers of ignoring history.
If anyone wants to know why a once-proud program is still taking baby steps now, it all leads back to this.
Plus, there's the personal decency, fairness and seemingly unfairly ruined life
aspect, as well as numerous millions spent in dealing with the aftermath that could
have gone into the program.
Don't like the topic? See Mayhem's opening paragraph.
Let's handle this issue (or ignore if you want--but it's a lot more relevant than other teams and
coaches) somewhat like adults who can handle honest discussion.
In the end, we're all on the same side, anyway.

Feel good for Gerald that he reached his potential and exceeded any expectations.
Hope it continues even at a more modest level during league play.
As mentioned above in some very smart posts: consistency, not relying on one player, and sharing the ball is important for this team (and pretty much every team).
We've really been feeling our way, masked by an ultra-patsy schedule, but when healthy, we have more
depth than in previous years. CC used that to our advantage yesterday.
So far, players clearly have their roles and have sometimes rose to the occasion, sometimes less so.
Yesterday was an example of what everyone can bring to the table. In just one example of that, as noted above, Sean can really help the offense. (and Christian Jones seems like a new weapon, along with maybe Dayan Nessah at some point).
Don't have a feel for what will happen in league play because we haven't faced A-10 level challenges. But last night was certainly at least a hopeful sign. And hope, though the jury is out, we don't look past UVA-Wise (really, UVA-Wise?) and continue to gel for the league season.

I was going to say that Max comes from a long line of GW guards who get a little full of themselves (Brayon comes to mind, and maybe TNJ), but Max's first two years at GW were pretty stellar. Was well on his way to being a 1,000 point scorer, made the A10 all-rookie team, finished sixth in conference in rebounding as a guard... the kid was pretty damn good despite his faults
Curious to know why this is has been such a bad fit for him.
There is all sorts of speculation about Max's head--and I have my own thoughts as well, largely
relating to the stars on the teams he played on.
But creeksandzeeks is right: Max was a useful contributor here overall, in both his shooting when he was on
a hot streak and absolutely, his rebounding (see our lack of it against Army)
Think this whole thing with Max and others is an indictment of the easy transfer system. It can work--
and work well for some people. For example, the presumed namesakes of creeksandzeeks.
But others it just doesn't. Any other issues like attitude aside, pure basketballwise, Max might have done fine staying here--and maybe a lot better after Bishop departed. Especially, with let's say carefully, a more upbeat
approach.
Part of it for these players who don't mesh could be fit; part of it personality, etc. Bamisile, for example, didn't do
well at Virginia Tech, did well a fair amount of time here (though could help both win and lose games), fared badly
at Oklahoma, and believe had a slower start at VCU, compared to now.
And of course, DMV has interesting insight on basketball skills and transferring.
Freeman's career between high school and college (isn't it at least 8 in 8 years?) is a world in its own, and
also seems to be an indictment of the system of chasing the next big thing. His talents may have been lost in
that--and of course, the issues that led to him being dismissed from RI.
Now, take a guy like Tyler Cavanaugh, who sat out a year. He took

Pointed this out before.
But if Sean Hansen is shooting 60 pct, 6 for 10 as announcers said--and they weren't all easy shots, shouldn't we try more to get the ball to him outside the arc?
Maybe he will wind up like everyone else, but perhaps worth a shot,so to speak.
Just a crazy thought.

Guess elaborate reasoning doesn't work.

1) NIL (and the NCAA in general) screws us big time, no doubt. But it also does the same to many less struggling programs at or near our level, up or down.
2) Don't think we are at the bottom of A-10 NIL money. At lease some others in our league are also in a challenged or worse spot.
3) Like Illinois State, we dug ourselves out of a deep hole because we had better players than AU.
But some real brain farts. One player seemed to launch a very long 3-pointer when we were ahead and should have milked the clock at that point. The fouling thing when up by 3 is also a question.
It might not have made sense with 14 seconds to go, but aggressive defense and fouling a few seconds before that 3-point shot was taken was certainly warranted. You could almost feel this was going to happen to us, as it seems to often do.
But put our strategy and our inability to put the ball in the basket for long stretches, aside.
AU simply wanted it more than we did. It was pretty clear. That is problematic and shouldn't happen again.

Good find. Will read it all at some point, but it's a lot. And maybe these things make too much of something. It would take a lot for Darren to be a top 20 pick one day, but sure rooting for him. He's a great player and terrific guy.
Darren had a rough first half and a rough time at the foul line against AU. And still had a big impact.
But think these types of stories and overhyping can get to even the most level-headed person. Darren is a great human being who make us proud. But it's hard to live up to this drumbeat, especially on a team which is not even getting their stuff together, as witnessed by last night.
We know in general what Darren has to do to make it to the next level. And a lot of it is also circumstances, unless you're a standout in your generation. Sure he will put in the work.
Maybe we are putting too much on him, both on the court in terms of expectations of his future. We certainly over relied on poor Darren yesterday. He came through in the second half (outside of FT shooting--and anyone can have a bad day), because he is so talented and smart. But we need to get a more productive surrounding cast (and some already have that ability, if not consistently).
And maybe taking it a bit easier on making him an NBA start just yet, as thrilled as we would or hopefully
will be one day, if or when that happens. He's got a great future, but still has ways to go.
The most important takeaway is this guy was talking about 2026, at least.
Darren needs much more time at GW to develop his game for the next level, as well as enjoy and take part in the educational, social and charitable aspects that also mean much to him.

A very real possibility it takes us a decade to win a non-conference road game
1) That's a very painful stat.
2) We did this to ourselves starting just before the 2016 season.

Max was a contributor here, including A10 Rookie Of The Year.
This may be an example of how transferring-- or transferring too much can negatively. affect performance, especially in an emotional plsyer.
Like Bamisile's disappointing time at Oklahoma.
