Where is the TV camera located, outside on Fordham Rd? Can barely see the baskets.

Time out maybe to figure this press out?

Re: GW BEATS Fordham Game

Struggling with the press, but their ball movement on offense has been excellent.

Re: GW BEATS Fordham Game

Before everyone writes off this performance as Fordham being bad (they are), we were only a 3.5 point favorite tonight.

Impressive beat down.

Re: GW BEATS Fordham Game

Great outing.
Jacoi and Jun coming back to form.
Time to put in Bevins (nice 3 first half) and Nessah to give them a little run,--and soon, the rest of the bench.

Re: GW BEATS Fordham Game

Nice win. We always had trouble at Fordham but we seemed focused from the beginning and didn't let up in the second half. St. Bona  eeks out a win against UMass in the battle for 7th. We split with Umass but hold the win against St. Bona. Duquesne?

Exactly FQ! No such thing as a doesn’t matter 81-58 win with the last 9 years.

If Duq loses = GW is the 7 seed
If Duq wins = GW is the 8 seed

That’s a big difference, as the 7 seed gets to play a team that played on Wednesday (10 or 15), while the 8 seed has to play a rested 9 seed… Lets go SLU!

Sometimes it’s harder to play a team that got a game in already (and a win) than a time playing their first game like you.

But I think the biggest advantage is two things. First, we’d be in George Mason’s QF instead of VCU (and they may be faltering down the stretch - got smoked by VCU and Duq, struggled with LaSalle - plus Haynes got hurt tonight though no idea how serious).

Second, the game would be at 5PM, whereas the 8-9 game is played at 11:30AM.   Not only would that make it much easier to attend, but generally there’ll be a better crowd for a 5PM game. I doubt I can even make it if it’s at 11:30 on a Thursday.

I guess personal attacks are OK based on who is making them.

That wasn’t a personal attack - it was a joke (well it was kind of an attack on Jamion).

Yes FQ, I am well aware that this was a joke.  The exact same thing was true of my earlier remark which was clearly a sarcastic joke and not at all a personal attack.

By the way, this board does have monitors of which you are not one.  If a board monitor wants to point out to me that any of my posts are inappropriate, I will respectfully listen and if need be, make a case for why I might disagree.  You?  Not so much.

Re: GW BEATS Fordham Game

So, this team finally listened to me.  (Played together and smart.)  And to be perfectly clear, no, I am not taking any credit for last night's victory.

A motivated GW team did what good teams are supposed to do.  It didn't matter where the game was played or that Fordham didn't have much to lose.  The combination of GW being too good defensively with Fordham being too inept offensively meant that GW did not have to be overly concerned with Fordham making a similar comeback to La Salle's comeback last Saturday.

It's very gratifying to see 10 players get a chance to contribute to victories.  Everyone offers different skill sets and the coaching staff is taking advantage of who plays well with one another as well as how to best exploit various matchups.

My preseason expectation was to extend GW a legitimate chance at finishing in the Top 8 in the conference.  At 9-9, they will likely have achieved this.  (I don't think that they drop to 9 should the Dukes and Bonnies both win but am not 100% sure of this.)  Picked for 13th in the preseason pool, they will likely finish higher above its preseason prediction than any other A10 school (if they do finish in 9th, they will equal George Mason who was picked for 6th and will finish in 2nd.)  GW's NET is now at 117, 7th best in the conference (though Loyola at 118 can easily pass them), and its KenPom rank is at #106 (ranking 6th in the conference).  A job well done so far.

Re: GW BEATS Fordham Game

Aside from enjoying the lopsided win last night, the Fordham announcers were by far the best all year.  They did all their famous alumni announcers proud. They knew their GW basketball history with a ton of namedropping and filled the empty minutes when the game was out of reach.  I chuckled when they said they liked the new moniker but it had too many syllables.  This was in contrast to the Duquesne/VCU announcers the night before who repeatedly said Max was a transfer from George Mason.

As for the game, lots of good momentum to build on, but not sure why it took 4 turnovers in 2 minutes against the press to try something different.  One of the glaring weaknesses of this team is that nobody runs to the ball when a trap is on and the spacing made no sense for 2 minutes while it looked like the first time they ever saw a press.  Plenty of time to work on this with the down time.

Otherwise, really happy for CC, the coaching staff and players for the vast improvement over last years conference record.  Hope the bounces and calls go their way in the tournament.  Looking forward to it.

.

We did well against a let's say less than stellar team and it was gratifying to see a consistent win, except
for the brief press befuddlement. But this from H&R71 above does identify an issue that often happens needs to be emphasized.
At one point, I think it was the (fantastic Castro) who couldn't dribble anymore and was looking for someone
to pass to on the outside. For a long beat, no one came to the ball, even though it was obvious that he needed
help.
On the other hand, in just one example, Jacoi showed great wisdom on a breakaway when he was being
guarded by a much taller player. Instead of going up and getting his shot blocked in classic Rev tradition, he pulled out. And then, I believe passed for a three-point shot.
Also, Sean playing not far from his home, is a really overlooked player. He does all the little things and
passes very well usually and is an opportunistic scorer. Still would like to see him shoot more 3s.
Ty Bevins also. His percentage isn't stunning, but he can hit 3 pointers cold--and sometimes in bunches.
And most of our players are deficient from 3. Seems to have potential at least offensively
and long arms that can be useful at some point defensively.

The color guy also said “if I say colonials, will people be offended” and got no response from the PBP guy which had me laughing. It was a very entertaining broadcast.

IF?  He actually did call them the Colonials early in the game.

And no, I was not offended.
