The Saint Bonaventure Bonnies visit GW on Wednesday in a critical contest for both teams. Both teams are currently 6-10 in A10 conference play and looking to avoid ending up in the bottom 4 of the A10 standings. A win for either team would ensure a 1st round bye in the A10 tournament. The loser would have to await the results of the final slate of A10 games to determine their fate. In the earlier match up in Olean on December 31, the Bonnies came away with a one-point win on Mackenzie Pettinneli’s buzzer beater. SBU, coming in at 15-13 overall, lost to Chicago Loyola 58-55 on their home court on Saturday. The Bonnies are led by guards Laycee Drake (15.3 ppg and 6.1 rpg) and Aailiyah Parker (12.2 ppg and 5.7 rpg). In the first meeting between the teams, Drake torched GW for 21 points and Parker added 12 points. As a team, St. Bonaventure is scoring at a 62.2 ppg clip, while yielding just 61 ppg.
In addition to their identical conference records, these teams are statistically equivalent on both sides of the ball. In the first match up, the Bonnies were able to capitalize on turnovers, converting 16 GW miscues into a 15-4 edge in points-off-turnovers. The GW defense will force the Bonnies to work for their scores, but GW’s key to winning will be to minimize the costly turnovers that get converted to easy scores for SBU. The offense has been inconsistent in past few games and the bench has not provided the production or energy seen earlier in the season. Reynolds has been a pretty reliable scorer, but Lewis needs to get back into a good offensive rhythm without forcing things. Everyone has to hit a higher percentage of their layups and close-in attempts, because a lot of those misses are being turned into transition offense in the other direction. With the tournament coming up, it’s time to get every Rev on the same page and the last home game is the best time to do it.
Playing URI, the #1 team in the A10 on their home court, will be the Revs’ next big challenge.

Nice to get some revenge tonight! Liked what I was seeing offensively for most of the game.
Good luck to Filipa, Caia, Nya, Natalia, and Emma with whatever they do next! Glad they were able to end Senior Night with a W. Calisto played really well. I guess Morris could still come back since she redshirted this year.

GW grabs 61-47 victory over Saint Bonaventure on Senior Night.
GW got off to a good start and led the Bonnies by 11 points before a 5-0 spurt in the last 40 seconds of the 1st quarter, highlighted by a buzzer-beating trey by Pettinelli, cut the margin to 21-16 going into the 2nd period. The Revs picked things up in the 2nd quarter and were able to increase the lead to 34-21 going into halftime. At this point, the defense was exceptional, holding Drake to just 4 points on 2-7 shooting, and Parker to 5 points on 1-7 attempts. GW was led by Reynolds, who netted 12 points, while Lewis tossed in 9 points. GW came out passively to start the 3rd quarter and SBU went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 6 points. After a much needed time out, the Revs gathered themselves and finished the quarter strong, closing the period on a 17-4 run to take a 51-35 lead into the 4th quarter. The Bonnies made no serious threats in the final period, and GW came away with a 14-point win. Parker finished with 12 points, and Elyse MacDonough finished with 10 points. Drake ended up with 7 points on just 3-13 shooting from the field. Despite getting only 2 points combined from Reynolds and Lewis in the 2nd half, GW was able to put 27 points on the board thanks to the timely contributions of Theodorsson (10 points), Calisto (8 points), Wilson (7 points), Becker (6 points), and James (5 points). It was a great team effort.
This was sweet revenge for GW, who lost a heart breaker to SBU earlier this year, and special for the seniors who suited up for the last time for a game at the Smith Center. All four seniors played meaningful minutes, and while Theodrosson and Calisto provided the scoring, Loving and Sierra-Vargas provided great defense and hustle. GW held SBU to just 30% field goal percentage and only 6 assisted baskets. They outrebounded the Bonnies 44-24, and held a 28-20 edge on points-in-the-paint. GW was fortunate that although they committed 20 turnovers, the Bonnies could only muster a 12-10 advantage on points-on-turnovers. And to be fair, it seemed like many of the turnovers (almost ½?) were traveling calls. With the win, the Revs will definitely avoid the 1st round of the A10 tourney, but their final seed and opponent won’t be determined until Saturday’s games are completed.
GW closes out the regular A10 schedule at Rhode Island on Saturday. After being soundly beaten by Richmond tonight, URI has to win if they want clinch the regular season A10 title and #1 overall seed.
