This matchup pits two teams that have recently won games in similar ways. Both teams have struggled to put consistent offenses together, but have leaned on their defenses to keep them competitive in games. In the first game between the two, GW could only manage 48 points, but still managed to take a lead the game going into the final period. An 18-10 advantage for Loyola in the 4th quarter was the difference in the game. Mobley’s 19 points backed up by 11 points from Mercille were enough to carry the team. Lewis (15 points) was the only double digit scorer for GW.
Expect this game to go much the same way as the first. The Revs’ defense will focus on limiting Mobley, while forcing the Ramblers to play half court offense and trying to control the pace. On offense, the Revs have take care of the ball to prevent Loyola from getting easy scores, and hit open shots. The Ramblers' defensive focus on Reynolds should provide some good opportunities for her teammates, but they have to knock some of them down. Were it not for an extraordinary performance by Reynolds, the outcome in the USI game would have been different. In that game, USI did a great job on Reynolds, limiting her to just 9 shot attempts. Fortunately for GW, she hit on 7 of them, including 6 from beyond the arc. Lewis had only 8 attempts, but hit on 5 of them. Unfortunately, the rest of the team was just 5-24 overall, and just 1-16 on 3-point attempts. The short bench has also been an issue. Foul trouble has become a big issue, especially when Theodorsson and Phiri are out of the lineup. The Revs’ offensive potential suffers when Reynolds or Lewis have to sit out for any extended amount of time and in this game points will be at a premium. These teams will go after each other hard and the outcome will depend on who can manufacture the most points. The only certainty in this contest is that the A10 will have at least one team in the Great Eight.
The winner of this game will go on to meet the winner between Illinois State and Abilene Christian.

Great to get revenge tonight! Sara and Gabby were fantastic. Good to see Tanah get involved more on offense. That play to open up Jaeda for her second three was a thing of beauty. The team is guaranteed to finish at least at .500 to end the year. Pretty impressive for year 1. Coach G continues to impress!

GW gets payback, defeats Loyola Chicago 71-62 to move on the WNIT Great Eight.
GW came out of the gate strong, but encountered a few bumps on the way to the Revs’ 3rd consecutive win in the WNIT. Behind great performances by Lewis (25 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists) and Reynolds (20 points), GW was able to hold off multiple Rambler rallies to win the game. The teams battled to a 25-25 deadlock in then 1st half, with Mobley and Kinas leading the way for Loyola with 7 points apiece. GW countered with 9 points from Lewis and 8 points from Reynolds. After the break, both offenses heated up, but GW was able to sustain their offense and built up a 15 point lead early in the 4th quarter. Loyola responded with some lights out 3-point shooting, particularly Mercille (3-5) and Mobley (3-4), and cut the lead to just 4 points with 3 minutes to go. At that point, clutch scores by Reynolds, Lewis, and Sims allowed the Revs to bring the lead back up to 9 points and close out the game. Mobley finished with 19 points for the Ramblers and Kinas finished with 13 points. GW’s high scoring duo was backed up with 8 points each from Sims, Wilson, and Becker.
Another great defensive performance propelled GW to a huge win for the program. Aside from some easy fast break Rambler baskets in the 1st quarter resulting from unforced by the Revs (and the scary 3-point barrage in the 4th quarter), GW made Loyola work hard for their scores. On the other end, GW was patient, and getting a lot of high percentage looks at the basket. Today, Reynolds, who has been on fire from beyond the arc, made 5-6 from beyond then arc, and Wilson drained 2-3 of here attempts. Lewis was not to be denied on the inside, leading GW to a 34-22 edge in point-in-the paint. GW finished the game shooting at 47%, while holding Loyola to 38% (and just 31% from 2-point range). Regardless of what happens going forward, the GW foray into the post season has been a big success. Who else can claim to be the only A10 basketball team still playing on March 28?
GW will meet the Super 16 winner Illinois State (over Abilene Christian). GW will be heading to Illinois.
