Hi Everyone. I hope that everyone is getting vaccinated, or are on lists to get vaccinated. I hope we're on our way to a better summer and fall.
I was recently speaking to an associate of mine who has a good friend that was a college basketball player. His friend played in the big 10 and after his 2nd year transferred to a Mountain West college. He played in for the Mountain West school for one year and then left, finishing his career playing for a smaller D1 school.
I was told that the reason he transferred so many times is because the assistant coaches for each the Big10 and then the Mountain West school left for other coaching jobs. He said it was the assistants that really run the show and that the head coaches spend most of the time tending to media, alum and other administrative things. He said when a new assistant is brought in, they normally usher in a lot of change and the result is player turnover and often a hostile environment between legacy players and the new assistant. He said the the assistants normally stay in their jobs for a long time and it was very unusual that a player would experience losing two assistants.
Apparently, this player was highly recruited out of high school by many of the big ACC, BIG10 and SEC teams and was thought to be skilled enough to have NBA draft potential. But he was ground down by his college experience and was a shell of his former self by the time he left the Mountain West school. He's since graduated and not playing basketball, although doing quite well in his career.
I was wondering if anyone would comment on the way this player's experience was characterized to me, and if it makes any sense to you. Also, would you think there are any parallels to the assistant coaching changes at GW which might also at least partially explain why some players have decided to transfer?

A lot of factors can be responsible for the decision to transfer. It's possible that this could be one of them generally. It can also work the other way as well. A player doesn't get along with one of the assistants. If the player likes the Head Coach and school, I strongly doubt an assistant leaving would cause him to transfer.
That said, none of the players that left were recruited by Nima- Devlin and Bousley have been here since Day 1.. I've heard nothing to suggest that his leaving was any factor in any of the transfers out. Paar, Battle, Jack, Mezie, TNJ and Langarica were all recruited by Mojo and staff. Seymour, Nelson, Ball. Walker Jr. were all recruited by JC while at Siena. Ace was JC recruit from Mount St. Mary's.

Fatts Russell to Maryland
I love Fats but can he be more than a change of pace for Terps? Are the Terps good enough to maximize what he does well?

Qudus Wahab to Maryland.
That’s kind of a shock. Can’t remember any players going from Georgetown to Maryland or vice-versa - let alone a key starter dor one team. I’m sure someone here will remember when it’s happened.
I will say, picking up Wahab and Fatts is a nice haul for Turdgeon

Terry Nolan Jr (TNJ) from Bradley to Towson as a graduate student.
Going for his masters... nice to see.

Perfect for Terry and his family. And the masters is great to know.

GWRising is Quentin Diboundje from Montverde still an option? Seems Tenn might be the pick.
It seems the staff is reaching out to more 21's recruits lately. Maybe an indication that they are missing out on some of these first options. But thats purely speculation

Was santos one of the players you anticipated GW would get but, the longer it took, the less optimistic you were?

BrianPaul.. can you take your negativity and sarcasm to another thread. No matter what personal issue you have with GWRising he does provide some information to those of us that are interested in the team and not in the drama that is brought to this board by many. I don't know any of you and why you all seem to have animosity amongst yourselves, but please leave it off this board or at least off this thread. This is a time where we all could use some positivity in our lives, so why make this another source of negativity. Thanks for your help in making this a productive community of people who are fans of GW basketball. BTW this is not an invitation to give us stories as to why you have issues with other board members. Just be civil. Thanks

Unfortunately he is not coming and yes this was one that I thought we had a very good chance to get. I had heard it was us and one SEC school (not Tennessee) but then Tennessee came in very late and got him.

Yes Santos and Diboundje we were very close on both. It's possible the transfer commitments affected Santos more than Diboundje. Both would have been really good gets for GW and we were right there until the end. However, we are still involved with some very good kids but not sure what JC plans to do - another transfer now vs. 2021 now vs. wait until later to decide when second wave of transfers/de-commits hits. The problem with 2021s is a lot of them didn't play much between AAU and HS in the past year so the evaluations are less reliable unless you have been on them for awhile.

GWRising. Thanks for the feedback. Yes both looked like they would have been great gets

Not so sure its a position we need or could guarantee enough playing time but given his history with Christian a very interesting addition to the portal
Jeff Borzello@jeffborzello·23m Siena guard Jalen Pickett has entered the transfer portal, source told ESPN. Averaged 12.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists. Big-time playmaker.

Thought he could conceivably be coming before JNJ committed let alone James Bishop. I suspect he will want more playing time. Could see him at a UMASS or a George Mason playing a ton of minutes, or at a high major being a key contributor but not a 35+ minute guy. In any case, this is a tough blow to Coach Carm's program.

It’d be fun to have Jalen, but I stand by that we need 3-5, not 1-2.

Going to put this here since we don't have a JUCO thread yet in the recruiting section. This would be the first JUCO player we've recruited in a long time, maybe ever if it's true.
